Luther Burbank Center for the Arts presents Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan

Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán, the legendary ensemble founded in 1897, embarks on its El Legado Tour 2025, celebrating more than a century of musical excellence and cultural tradition. Known worldwide as the world’s greatest mariachi, the group continues to captivate audiences with its unmatched musicianship, powerful vocals, and ability to honor tradition while embracing innovation.
This year’s tour features unforgettable collaborations with icons of regional Mexican music including Pancho Barraza, Julio Preciado, and Grupo Cañaveral. Together, they promise a once-in-a-lifetime concert experience that blends mariachi, banda, and cumbia — a true celebration of Mexican heritage and the sounds that have defined generations.
The performance opens with LBC’s own Mariachi Cantares de mi Tierra, led by Music Specialist Matthew Isais Bowker. This advanced ensemble is made up of dedicated students in grades 4–12 from across Sonoma County. Members of this no-cost program commit to rigorous rehearsals, maintain strong academics, and perform in traditional trajes provided at no cost by LBC. It has shared the stage with world-renowned artists and performed at multiple state and international competitions, most recently taking third place at the 2025 California State Fair Viva El Mariachi competition.
