The Bay Area Basket Makers Introduces – Traditional and Beyond, a new exhibit showcasing a collection of contemporary fiber vessels. This exhibit, which opens on Friday, September 12, from 4-6 pm, promises to be a captivating display of craftsmanship and artistry, remaining open to the public until October 5 at the Gualala Arts Burnett Gallery. “These contemporary fiber vessels, while not necessarily functional in the traditional sense, stand as sculptures that express a wide range of emotions, ideas, and mental states” says BABM member Bob Darchi.

The BABM members aim to evoke discussion about this dynamic and varied craft, sparking conversations about the evolution of basketry materials from traditional to unconventional.  The exhibit is an invitation to explore the boundaries of basket making and to appreciate the intricate beauty of fiber art.

Some of this year’s participating basket makers will be: Toni Best,, Nancy Briemle, Bob Darchi, Jutta Frankie, Betsy Gribble, Michele Hament, Chris Johnson, Lorraine Oller, Tammy Slezak, Jill Stanton, Gayle Still and Linda Tapscott.
