SUMMARY:Mystic Theatre presents Mdou Moctar
DESCRIPTION:Prodigious Tuareg guitarist and songwriter Mdou Moctar boldly reforges contemporary Saharan music and “rock music“ by melding Eddie Van Halen pyrotechnics\, full-blast noise and guitar shredding\, field recordings\, drums rhythms\, poetic meditations on love\, religion\, women’s rights\, inequality and Western Africa’s exploitation at the hands of colonial powers to rip a new hole in the sky with the Afrique Victime album. \nMdou Moctar’s home is Agadez\, a desert village in rural Niger. Inspired by YouTube videos of Eddie Van Halen’s six string techniques and traditional Tuareg melodies\, he mastered the guitar which he himself built and created his own burning style.  A born charismatic\, Mdou went on to tell his story as an aspiring artist by writing\, producing & starring in the first Tuareg language film: a remake of Purple Rain called Akounak Tedalat Taha Tazoughai –  which translates to “Rain The Color Of Blue With A Little Red In It”\, winning the approval of his family and his community. The word and the sound travelled across West Africa via mobile phone data cards\, a popular form of local music distribution. Gruelling DIY world tours and albums on the independent US label Sahel Sounds followed\, including 2019’s landmark Ilana: The Creator album that earned Mdou Moctar an ecstatic international audience.

DESCRIPTION:Singer\, songwriter\, and humanitarian Etana is a powerhouse vocalist and 2X Grammy Award nominee. It’s been over a decade since her debut as a reggae artist; she is now a recognized and respected entertainer in her native Jamaica and is also well known worldwide. Their unique sounds and the experience of their passionate performances continues to captivate both loyal fans and new listeners. \n\nNamed after the patron saint of music\, La Santa Cecilia is composed of accordionist and requinto player Jose ‘Pepe’ Carlos\, bassist Alex Bendaña\, percussionist Miguel ‘Oso’ Ramirez\, and vocalist Marisol ‘La Marisoul’ Hernandez.  \nWith a captivating voice that sings about love\, loss\, and everyday struggles\, the band has become the voice of a new bicultural generation in the United States\, fully immersed in modern music\, but always close to their Latin American influences and Mexican heritage.

SUMMARY:Mystic Theatre presents Yellowman
DESCRIPTION:FIRST. BIGGEST. BOLDEST. \nWhen you talk about dancehall\, you start with KING YELLOWMAN. The man who took Jamaican music to the world. The original superstar who proved that dancehall wasn’t just music—it was a revolution. \nIn the 1980s\, while others were still figuring it out\, Yellowman was DOMINATING. Five albums a year. Over 40 singles. Sold-out shows across the globe. He didn’t just make dancehall popular—he created the blueprint that everyone else followed. \nTHE FIRST TO DO IT \nFirst dancehall artist signed to Columbia Records. First to get Grammy nominations. First to bring dancehall to the international stage. Yellowman didn’t follow trends—he set them. \nFrom Kingston to New York\, London to Tokyo\, Yellowman conquered every stage. His legendary track “Zungguzungguguzungguzeng” became one of the most sampled riddims in hip-hop history—sampled by 2Pac\, Biggie\, Sublime\, and countless others. That’s not just influence. That’s legacy. \nUNSTOPPABLE FORCE \nEven when cancer tried to stop him\, Yellowman came back stronger. Multiple surgeries? He kept performing. Doctors told him to rest? He released more albums. That’s not just resilience—that’s greatness. \nToday\, Yellowman continues to tour the world\, inspiring new generations and reminding everyone why he’s the king. His impact on music\, culture\, and society is immeasurable. He didn’t just change dancehall—he changed the world.

SUMMARY:Coyote Sonoma presents Shana Morrison & Caledonia
DESCRIPTION:Shana Morrison’s musical style has been called pop with a side of blues and a side of rock. She is also known to include other ingredients\, like country\, R&B and jazz into the mix. Her material seems to be ever-changing and hard to pin down categorically\, but what always remains the same is Shana’s unique and wide-ranging voice.\n\nThe daughter of legendary Northern Irish musician Van Morrison\, Shana Morrison began performing with her group Caledonia in the San Francisco Bay area in 1996\, releasing their debut CD on her own label\, Belfast Violet Records. Since 2002\, Shana has toured internationally\, including numerous concert dates with her father. She has shared billing with the likes of Bonnie Raitt\, John Lee Hooker\, and Dr. John\, and has played for a variety of festival audiences\, including the San Francisco Blues Festival and the Cork Jazz Festival. Her set list always includes some of Van Morrison’s greatest hits.\n\nCaledonia is one of those indefinable bands. Variously described as alt-country and new wave\, the group continues to fly its own hybrid tapestry freak flag.

SUMMARY:Sweetwater presents Southern Culture on the Skids
DESCRIPTION:Southern Culture On The Skids has been consistently recording and touring around the world since 1983. The band (Rick Miller – guitar and vocals\, Mary Huff – bass and vocals\, Dave Hartman – drums) has been playing together for over 30 years. Their musical journey has taken them from all-night North Carolina house parties to late night TV talk shows (Conan O’Brien\, The Tonight Show)\, from performing at the base of Mt. Fuji in Japan to rockin’ out for the inmates at North Carolina correctional facilities. They’ve shared a stage with many musical luminaries including Link Wray\, Loretta Lynn\, Hasil Adkins and Patti Smith. Their music has been featured in movies and TV\, parodied by Weird Al\, and used to sell everything from diamonds to pork sausage. In 2014 the band was honored by the Southern Folklife Collection at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill with an exhibition featuring their music and cultural contributions. Their legendary live shows are a testament to the therapeutic powers of foot-stomping\, butt-shaking rock and roll and what Rolling Stone dubbed “a hell raising rock and roll party.” \nThis Chapel Hill-based trio is flat-out amazing. Without resorting to needless flash or attention-hungry showboating\, Miller in particular is one of the most spectacularly gifted guitar players I’ve ever seen. He juggles a lot of styles – country\, garage rock\, surf\, rockabilly and soul to name just a few. – Stomp & Stammer

SUMMARY:Occidental Center for the Arts presents Electric Tumbleweed
DESCRIPTION:Electric Tumbleweed is a psychedelic outlaw country group based in Sonoma County\, California. Founded in 2019 by members rooted in bluegrass\, country\, and psychedelic rock\, the music is a hard driving mixture of twangy guitar and psychedelic noise\, held together by a steady rhythm section with the cry of pedal steel layered in between it all. Electric Tumbleweed has maintained steady momentum in the Northern California music scene; backing David Nelson (New Riders of the Purple Sage) on multiple occasions; most notably at the Mystic Theater with guest Mark Karan (Ratdog) for a sold out performance. Electric Tumbleweed performed regularly at Phil Lesh’s Terrapin Crossroads as a solo group as well as with Scott Law\, Barry Sless (Phil Lesh and Friends) and Dave Zirbel (Sammy Hagar Band) are regular pedal steel players in the group. The band has been invited to play multiple festivals and events including The String Cheese Incident’s Hog Farm Hideaway\, Ain’t Necessarily Dead Fest (backing David Nelson). We aim to keep our goals high\, and to perform high quality music; focusing on writing and arranging new songs\, and booking future tour dates. We are excited to release our debut full-length album in October 2021\, which features Sam Bush (New Grass Revival)\, Barry Sless (Phil Lesh & Friends)\, and Lester and Dylan Chambers (The Chambers Brothers). The album features the artwork of Stanley Mouse/Jennae Bennett and was engineered and mastered by Grammy winning Oz Fritz (Tom Waits).

SUMMARY:The California Theatre presents The Illeagles - The Premiere Tribute to The Music of The Eagles
DESCRIPTION:What do people want when they go see a live band? The members of SF Bay Area based tribute band ILLEAGLES believe that everyone in the crowd wants to be engaged and captivated from the first note until the show is done. Over the past 9 years of many sold-out performances\, that is exactly what every crowd has gotten! \nILLEAGLES was founded in 2016 when 6 friends came together\, who all had 2 things in common: 1) they loved the music of The Eagles\, and 2) each member was an amazing musician in their own right. This common vision led to hours and hours of studying\, rehearsing\, and mastering each of The Eagles classic hits. \nFrom rockers “Life in the Fast Lane” and “Heartache Tonight”\, to swooning ballads “Desperado” and “Best of My Love”\, ILLEAGLES not only reproduce the soaring guitars\, multi-part harmonies and tightness of the original band\, but also add their own brand of swagger and energy that keeps fans coming back over and over. It’s commonplace for a majority of the audience to start singing along on the first song\, and continuing to sing until the show is over (or they lose their voices). \nWith over six decades of memories\, the best-selling US album of the 20th Century\, and six Grammys\, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Inductees The Eagles are true legends. ILLEAGLES tastefully keep those memories alive! \nhttp://www.illeaglesband.com

DESCRIPTION:Born of a session in Paisley\, Scotland\, and named for the town’s historic weaving industry and local poet laureate Robert Tannahill\, the Tannahill Weavers have made an international name for their special brand of Celtic music\, blending the beauty of traditional melodies with the power of modern rhythms.  As one of the world’s premier traditional Celtic bands\, their diverse repertoire spans the centuries with fire-driven instrumentals\, topical songs\, original ballads and lullabies\, and humorous tales of life in Scotland.\n\nOver the years the Tannies have been trailblazers for Scottish music\, and their tight harmonies and powerful\, inventive arrangements have won them fans from beyond the folk and Celtic music scenes.  In 2011 the band was inducted into the Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame\, and in 2018 they released their highly acclaimed 50th Anniversary album Òrach (“Golden” in Gaelic) on award-winning label Compass Records\, followed by the well loved Celtic holiday celebration Solstice in 2024. \n\nAs they approach their 58th anniversary\, the Tannahill Weavers are firmly established as one of the premier groups on the concert stage. From reflective ballads to footstomping reels and jigs\, the variety and range of the material they perform is matched only by their enthusiasm and lively Celtic spirits.\n\n“Formed from a Paisley pub session in 1968\, seminal trailblazers the Tannahill Weavers now also rank as national treasures.” \n                                   -Glasgow Celtic Connections
