SUMMARY:Mystic Theatre presents Mihali
DESCRIPTION:For Mihali\, music behaves much like a living being. It grows\, it matures\, and it changes with a sentient consciousness and with whims of its own. And just like music\, the Vermont-based singer\, songwriter\, guitarist\, and co-founder of rock outfit Twiddle continues to evolve\, using his gift as one of the strongest modern-day songwriters\, guitarists and performers to bring healing vibes and unforgettable songs to the world.  \nHis 2022 record\, Effection [released via Ineffable Records]\, was a ten-track body of work that intertwines reggae spirit\, fluid soundscape architecture\, and invigorating mantras meant to be chanted aloud in a packed venue. With support from reggae and roots rock mainstays like Iration\, Chadwick Stokes (of Dispatch)\, The Movement\, The Elovaters\, Jacob Hemphill (of SOJA)\, and Iya Terra\, Effection effectively brought Mihali into the reggae spotlight\, landing him on tour with SOJA and G. Love & Special Sauce in 2024.

SUMMARY:Mystic Theatre presents The Billie Holiday Project
DESCRIPTION:Singing since the age of eight\, Stella feels wholly blessed to be able to express herself through music and song\, and to carry forth the torch of Jazz Music that she loves so dearly. She grew up in the North San Francisco Bay Area\, steeped in her mother’s eclectic music collection; some of her early musical influences were Louis Armstrong\, Edith Piaf\, Buena Vista Social Club\, Billie Holiday\, Tom Waits\, Bod Dylan and Ella Fitzgerald. Her education was primarily in Acting at Interlochen Arts Academy and Syracuse University\, where she received a degree in classical acting and cultural geography. She spent many years as a Shakespearian actress based out of New York City\, where she began to sing Jazz again with the incredible Marjorie Eliot in Harlem. She moved to her home state of California in 2014\, and began playing music full time\, starting the eclectic gypsy jazz inspired band\, Bandjango Collectif\, a wild around the edges band that mixes French Jazz Manouche\, New Orleans Hot Swing\, and Eclectic Global Folk\, allowing Stella to explore and play in vocal improvisation\, different languages\, and song interpretation. In 2019 she debuted The Billie Holiday Project\, a historically centered musical tribute to the great Lady Day; The show was met with great success and quickly moved into some of the Bay Area’s most reputable listening venues and began touring nationally. The pandemic brought fruitful new musical connections and collaborations with musicians such as Marcus Shelby\, Gunhild Carling\, and Ben Levin in Cincinnati.

SUMMARY:Sweetwater Music Hall presents Purple Haze – Tribute to Jimi Hendrix
DESCRIPTION:Ralph Woodson’s Purple Haze is not your typical tribute band.  \n\nHe has studied his idol to the point of being able to play the guitar behind his back\, and with his teeth. Ralph’s a Hendrix authority\, and it’s obvious when you see him perform.\n\nThe youngest of nine\, he grew up in Richmond\, CA\, and was initially struck by the sound of the “Band of Gypsys” record. Ralph has toured with Hedzoli Sounds (of which Hugh Masekela was a member)\, as well as The Mighty Diamonds\, Lady Bianca\, Faye Carol\, and a Bill Kreutzmann (Grateful Dead)/Sy Klopps (Herbie Herbert) collaboration called the Trichromes. With the Trichromes and later with the Sy Klopps Blues Band\, Ralph played on big stages opening for Tower of Power\, James Brown\, ZZ Top\, and Lynyrd Skynyrd\, among others. He’s appeared at the College of Marin and on KFOG-FM with author/Hendrix expert Steve Roby\, demonstrating the sound and techniques of Jimi Hendrix. \n\nRalph formed the Ralph Woodson Experience in 2001 (which became Purple Haze in 2010)\, focusing on the Hendrix material that he grew up with and always loved. Purple Haze has gained a steady following in the Bay Area and knock people out wherever they go. Ralph’s showmanship and command of the Hendrix material is second to none.

SUMMARY:Mystic Theatre presents Sun Kil Moon
DESCRIPTION:Sun Kil Moon is the long-running project of singer-songwriter Mark Kozelek\, known for his deeply personal\, conversational style that blends indie folk\, slowcore\, and spoken-word storytelling. His music is intimate and reflective\, often drawing from real-life experiences\, travel\, and everyday moments\, delivered through stripped-down arrangements and a distinctive\, narrative voice. \nWith a prolific catalog spanning decades—including his earlier work with Red House Painters and acclaimed Sun Kil Moon releases like Ghosts of the Great Highway and Benji—Kozelek continues to evolve\, releasing new material regularly and collaborating with artists around the world. His recent work reflects the same unfiltered\, stream-of-consciousness approach that has defined his career. \nSun Kil Moon performances are fully seated\, intimate listening experiences—less a traditional concert and more an evening of storytelling through music. Audiences can expect a quiet\, immersive atmosphere focused on lyrics\, mood\, and connection.

SUMMARY:Sweetwater Music Hall presents King Yellowman
DESCRIPTION:Yellowman was born Winston Foster in Negril\, Jamaica\, in 1959 (some accounts say 1956). An early target for abuse because of his albinism\, he grew up in an institution in Kingston\, with little to keep him company besides music. Influenced by early toasting DJs like U-Roy\, he practiced rhyming and got a job with the Gemini Sound System as a substitute DJ\, christening himself Yellowman and dressing in a bright yellow suit. In 1979\, he won a landslide victory at the well-known Tastee Talent Contest\, and within months he had become one of Jamaica’s top concert draws.\n\nYellowman recorded prolifically in the early ’80s\, at one point flooding the Jamaican market with more than 40 singles. Despite this success\, Yellowman didn’t truly hit his stride on record until he hooked up with groundbreaking dancehall producer Henry “Junjo” Lawes. The 1982 LP Mister Yellowman kicked off their collaboration; released internationally by Greensleeves\, it started to break him in the U.K. and U.S.\, and is still often acclaimed as his best album. It also launched a series of Jamaican hit singles over the next few years that included “Yellowman Getting Married” (a rewrite of the My Fair Lady number “I’m Getting Married in the Morning”)\, “Mr. Chin\,” “Who Can Make the Dance Ram” (a rewrite of “The Candy Man”)\, “Zungguzungguguzungguzeng” (sampled by several hip-hop acts)\, “The Good\, the Bad\, and the Ugly\,” “Soldier Take Over\,” “Nobody Move Nobody Get Hurt\,” and “Wreck a Pum Pum\,” among others. Many of his recordings during this era featured vocal contributions from fellow DJ/toaster Fathead\, whose specialty was punctuating lines with animal noises (“ribbit” and “oink” were his favorites).

SUMMARY:Luther Burbank Center presents Charley Crockett – Age of the Ram Tour with Special Guest Alicia Blue
DESCRIPTION:Charley Crockett has carved out a singular place in modern country music by refusing to play by the rules. A wanderer turned street singer turned chart-climbing songwriter\, he’s built a career on instinct\, independence\, and a deep reverence for the renegade tradition of artists like Willie Nelson\, Waylon Jennings\, and Gram Parsons. Fresh off the release of Age of the Ram\, the final chapter of his Sagebrush Trilogy\, Crockett arrives with a new batch of songs that paint a vivid picture of his journey from Texas dreamer\, New York street singer\, and twice-convicted felon to the belly of the country music beast. \nThis is Crockett’s vision of hard country music. Guitar and pedal steel are the rule on the album\, often accompanied by piano\, harmonica\, and keys. Produced by Shooter Jennings\, the record leans into hard country textures—guitar\, pedal steel\, harmonica\, and the dusty atmosphere of an old western film. Crockett threads narrative tracks\, character studies\, and classic covers into a vivid frontier tale\, punctuated by moments of introspection that reveal the man behind the myth.

SUMMARY:Sweetwater Music Hall presents Soul Ska
DESCRIPTION:SOUL SKA is a 9-piece San Francisco Bay Area Ska/Rocksteady collective formed in 2014 dedicated to keeping SKA music alive! SUMMARY:Mystic Theatre presents Pam Tillis
DESCRIPTION:As the daughter of Country Music Royalty\, Pam Tillis was determined from a young age to find her own way in music as a singer and songwriter. After many false starts with her own recording career\, including a pop single on Elektra and 1984’s “Above And Beyond The Doll Of Cutey” for Warner Brothers\, Tillis came to the attention of Tim Dubois who headed up the Nashville office of Arista records. After much soul searching\, Tillis made the commitment to make an honest country record. The album “Put Yourself In My Place” yielded 2 number ones\, 2 top five singles\, and one top twenty hits and in its first year the album was certified gold. Tillis followed with 3 platinum albums on Arista “Homeward Looking Angel” in 1992\, “Sweethearts Dance” in 1994 and an Arista “Greatest Hits” in 1997. Tillis achieved 6 number 1 songs during this time including “Shake the Sugar Tree”\, “Mi Vida Loca”\, “When You Walk In The Room”\, “In Between Dances” “Don’t Tell Me What To Do” and “Maybe It Was Memphis” while 14 of Pam’s other singles landed in the top ten and top twenty. \nPam Tillis fell in love with music at an early age. Band\, chorus\, talent shows\, church and the creative community of Nashville all helped to shape the young singer. Growing up\, Pam was in a variety of bands\, spanning from jazz and alternative country to top 40. She sang demos and lent her voice to many national jingles including Coke\, Country Time Lemonade and a Coors Silver Bullet with country superstar\, Alan Jackson. At the same time\, Tillis worked as a staff writer for Elektra Asylum Publishing and later took a job writing for Warner Brothers Publishing\, which resulted in her songs being recorded by some of the biggest names throughout all genres of music\, including artists like Chaka Khan\, Juice Newton\, Dan Seals\, Gloria Gaynor\, Conway Twitty and the top ten “Someone Else’s Trouble Now “for Highway 101. \nWhether it’s on the elaborate stages of the Grand Ole Opry or in the intimate setting of Nashville’s Bluebird Cafe\, you will experience that feeling of delight that comes from Pam Tillis singing exactly what she is meant to sing at that moment. \nPam Tillis’ star continues to shine brightly in the 3rd decade of her career and is currently touring extensively on her own as well as with her “Grits And Glamour” tour partner\, country star\, Lorrie Morgan.

DESCRIPTION:Bachgrounder lecture 35 minutes before each performance \nFinally\, as previously mentioned\, we’ll step across a line we’ve rarely crossed: Circa 1600 will go spelunking through the 20th century and into the 21st. Samuel Barber will make an appearance\, as well as a number of living composers. And—wait for it!— a bit of jazz just might be heard as we usher out our season in style!

Coming from a musical family\, he picked up the bass at around age 12 but found his true passion through the guitar\, writing and performing music\, at age 16.
