SUMMARY:Sweetwater Music Hall presents David Nelson Band
DESCRIPTION:The David Nelson Band has been recording and performing around the country since 1994. Their broad musical palette spans the Almost Acoustic style that Nelson played with Jerry Garcia\, through roots rock n roll\, and psychedelic country-rock. The DNB perform David’s compositions (many co-written with Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter)\, select covers\, and several Grateful Dead classics upon which Nelson appeared on the original album releases. These stylistic elements\, combined with plenty of spontaneous free form improvisation\, create a sound that is uniquely David Nelson Band. Though the original songs are mostly written by Nelson\, the development of all the material is a fully collaborative effort. These days the DNB only tour select areas a few times a year\, as the individual band members are in high demand with other successful touring acts. Their loyal and enthusiastic fans relish these special times to reunite at Nelson family gatherings. DNB shows are a joyous reunion for all – a communal gathering where regulars and newcomers all feel part of an extended family. \n\nDavid Nelson – guitar/ vocals – is a founding member of the New Riders of the Purple Sage and long time musical partner of Jerry Garcias dating back to 1962 in the pre-Grateful Dead bluegrass band\, The Wildwood Boys. Nelson was also a member of the Jerry Garcia Acoustic Band (and appears on their 1988 album release “Almost Acoustic” and 2010’s “Ragged But Right”) and performed on three Grateful Dead albums – “Aoxomoxoa”\, “Workingmans Dead” & “American Beauty” – playing the iconic electric guitar solo on Box of Rain. Nelson has also performed as a member of Phil Lesh and Friends.\n\nBarry Sless – lead guitar/ pedal steel – currently tours with Bobby Weir and Wolf Bros\, Skeleton Crewe and Moonalice. He was a frequent member of Phil Lesh and Friends touring and local lineups since 2004. He’s toured with Chris Robinsons Green Leaf Rustlers (and appears on their 2020 album release\, From Within Marin)\, Kingfish\, Cowboy Jazz\, and Great American Taxi. Barry is a founding member of DNB.

Plus\, live music from Dustin Saylor & The Stowaways. \nDustin Saylor\, a Northern California-born country singer-songwriter\, has made a name for himself as the #1 Country/Folk artist in the San Francisco Bay Area. His musical journey began in childhood\, first at the piano and later as a guitarist and singer for his high school youth group and local church. Despite early challenges\, including a devastating American Idol rejection in 2009\, Saylor had a transformative moment on his long drive home\, realizing that true success required full commitment. Embracing his calling\, he quit bartending\, pursued a music degree at Sonoma State University\, and became a full-time musician. Over the years\, he has performed alongside artists like Tyler Rich\, Chase Rice\, and Daughtry\, with his sound often compared to Thomas Rhett and Chris Stapleton. His songwriting is deeply personal\, shaped by his early experiences of adoption and the contrasting struggles and joys of his life. Through his music\, Saylor seeks to inspire\, heal\, and create a space where people can connect beyond labels. Committed to his craft\, he remains “all in\,” determined to sing and play music for the rest of his life.

SUMMARY:The California Theatre presents Spike Sikes and His Awesome Hotcakes
DESCRIPTION:Spike Sikes\, Awesome Hotcakes\, and a whole lot of music! With the perfect recipe of soul\, swing\, R&B\, jazz\, it’s going to be cooking down at The Cal! \nJust The Right Recipe… The most frequently heard comment after a Spike’s Awesome Hotcakes gig goes something like this – \n“No one is making this kind of music anymore!” \nBut what\, exactly\, is “this kind of music?” \nLike hotcakes themselves\, it goes by many names. Soul. Swing. Rhythm & Blues. Jazz. Jump. It’s a sound that’s classic and simple\, but when it’s done right\, it hits the spot\, and has you grinning from ear to ear. Spike has spent years searching for this sound. \nFrom the Texas blues joints he cut his teeth in to the funky halls of New Orleans\, he was always studying the music\, trying to find just the right recipe. It makes perfect sense that he found his bandmates in Sonoma County\, a music scene that has fostered many eclectic artists for decades. \nWhat he didn’t know was how hungry audiences were for “this kind of…

SUMMARY:6th Street Playhouse presents Marjorie Prime
DESCRIPTION:“Jordan Harrison’s gently uncanny play imagines a future solution for a person in mourning: the recreation of someone you love as an artificial intelligence.”\n—Kate Wyver\, The Guardian \nIn Marjorie Prime\, playwright Jordan Harrison delves into the intricate dance between human memory and artificial intelligence. Set in the not-so-distant future\, the narrative centers on 85-year-old Marjorie\, whose mind is gradually succumbing to dementia. To combat her fading recollections\, her family introduces her to a “Prime”—a lifelike holographic projection of her late husband\, Walter\, programmed to retell the stories of their shared past. As Marjorie interacts with Walter Prime\, the lines between authentic memories and reconstructed narratives blur\, prompting profound questions about identity\, the reliability of our recollections\, and the extent to which technology can replicate the essence of human connection. This thought-provoking drama challenges audiences to consider what we choose to remember\, what we wish to forget\, and how the digital age reshapes the very fabric of our personal histories. \nMarjorie Prime has garnered critical acclaim for its insightful exploration and profound commentary on the human condition in an era where technology increasingly intertwines with our daily lives.
