SUMMARY:Green Music Center presents Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me!
DESCRIPTION:Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me! is National Public Radio’s Peabody Award-winning comedy news quiz show. Host Peter Sagal leads a rotating panel of comedians\, writers\, listener contestants\, and celebrity guests through a rollicking review of the week’s news. SUMMARY:Sweetwater Music Hall presents Sam Bush
DESCRIPTION:There is only one consensus pick of peers and predecessors\, of the traditionalists\, the rebels\, and the next gen devotees. Music’s ultimate inside outsider. Or is it outside insider? There is only one Sam Bush. \nOn a Bowling Green\, Kentucky cattle farm in the post-war 1950s\, Bush grew up an only son\, and with four sisters. His love of music came immediately\, encouraged by his parents’ record collection and\, particularly\, by his father Charlie\, a fiddler\, who organized local jams. Charlie envisioned his son someday a staff fiddler at the Grand Ole Opry\, but a clear day’s signal from Nashville brought to Bush’s television screen a tow-headed boy named Ricky Skaggs playing mandolin with Flatt and Scruggs\, and an epiphany for Bush. At 11\, he purchased his first mandolin. \nAs a teen fiddler Bush was a three-time national champion in the junior division of the National Oldtime Fiddler’s Contest. He recorded an instrumental album\, Poor Richard’s Almanac as a high school senior and in the spring of 1970 attended the Fiddlers Convention in Union Grove\, NC. There he heard the New Deal String Band\, taking notice of their rock-inspired brand of progressive bluegrass. \nHe’s released seven albums and a live DVD over the past two decades. In 2009\, the Americana Music Association awarded Bush the Lifetime Achievement Award for Instrumentalist. Punch Brothers\, Steep Canyon Rangers\, and Greensky Bluegrass are just a few present-day bluegrass vanguards among so many musicians he’s influenced. His performances are annual highlights of the festival circuit\, with Bush’s joyous perennial appearances at the town’s famed bluegrass fest earning him the title\, “King of Telluride.”

SUMMARY:Uptown Theatre presents The Robert Cray Band
DESCRIPTION:Blues icon. Soul man. Rock and roller. Robert Cray is all these things—and more. The Georgia-born\, Washington-raised musician first picked up a guitar after seeing The Beatles on TV\, then\, having witnessed Jimi Hendrix perform in Seattle\, determined that his destiny would follow a similar path. And so it has. Across the past half century\, Robert Cray has developed into one of American music’s most singular artists. \n“I guess you’d have to say that we were lucky\,” reflects Cray on his life in music\, “because\, growing up in the 1960s\, the different music played on the radio really opened us up. I mean\, we even had Albert Collins play our high school graduation party.”

SUMMARY:Luther Burbank Center presents The Stray Cats with special guest MoonShine
DESCRIPTION:The Stray Cats\, the band that put rockabilly music back on the record charts in the early ’80s\, scored several big hits on both sides of the Atlantic. All thanks to genuine musical chops that evoke the best players of rockabilly’s original heyday and a striking visual 1950s style made contemporary with exaggerated pompadours and colorful tattoos. \nThe Stray Cats was formed on Long Island in 1979 by guitarist/vocalist Brian Setzer\, upright bass player Lee Rocker\, and drummer Slim Jim Phantom\, all who shared a love for Rockabilly music. After banging around New York for a few months in the summer of 1980\, they saw a kid in a pompadour on the cover of UK magazine NME and hopped a plane to London\, where a rockabilly revival movement was just beginning to emerge. Their massive hits and videos include “Runaway Boys\,” “Rock This Town\,” “Stray Cat Strut” “(She’s) Sexy + 17\,” and “I Won’t Stand in Your Way.”

For nearly five years she produced over 500 songs\, for artists like Al Green\, Sting\, Randy Newman\, Robert Downey Jr. Jon Bon Jovi\, Gladys Knight\, Chubby Checker\, Barry Manilow and many more.\n\nVonda now tours in support of her most recent album Red Light/Green Light with her stellar band\, whose all-star line-up has alternately featured musicians that have played with Tina Turner\, Bruce Springsteen\, Johnny Cash\, John Hiatt and Jackson Browne to name a few.

SUMMARY:Raven Performing Arts Theater presents Who Will Dance with Pancho Villa?
DESCRIPTION:Who Will Dance with Pancho Villa? played to sold-out audiences in January. First performed off-Broadway in 1994\, the playwrights updated the story with the introduction of the Ballet Folklórico Legado de Mi Alegría de Cloverdale Ca while developing the play further through the Raven Players’ ScripTease program. It is the story of a young Chicano from Chicago\, lured to the East Coast by an Ivy League scholarship. As he tries to make a life there\, he neglects family relationships and deep cultural roots established throughout generations. It takes his mother’s nearly fatal heart attack\, help from a Jewish therapist\, and the visitation of the spirits of his long dead relatives (and of his historical idol\, Pancho Villa) to help him realize what he’s lost\, and how to get it back. Dancing spirits\, who are intertwined throughout the play\, help remind “Chicano” of the joy in dancing\, especially when dancing is much more than dancing.
