SUMMARY:Marin Theatre presents The White Chip
DESCRIPTION:Success seems to come easily to Steven McAlister. Charismatic and constantly in motion\, he’s built a life that looks enviable from the outside — complete with a dream job at a prestigious theatre. But from his very first drink at 12\, it’s clear he has been lying to himself for years. Equal parts hilarious and heartbreaking\, this “recovery comedy” unfolds from Steven’s own disarmingly candid and charmingly funny perspective. Named for the tokens given in Alcoholics Anonymous to mark the beginning of sobriety\, The White Chip follows Steven as he barrels through the highs\, lows\, and spectacular missteps of addiction\, telling a story about the courage to start over\, one day at a time. Marin Theatre Artistic Director Lance Gardner helms this production. \n\nThis play is recommended for ages 13 and up. \n \nAdvisory Warning: Water-Based Haze\, Strobe Lights

SUMMARY:Raven Performing Arts Theater presents macbitches
DESCRIPTION:macbitches takes a darkly funny look at the toxic\, high-stakes world of university theater\, centering on a freshman who unexpectedly lands the role of Lady Macbeth. The play centers on freshman acting major Hailey\, who unexpectedly scores the coveted role of Lady Macbeth. Her upperclassmen rivals immediately invite her over to “celebrate.” As the Fireball and Svedka flow\, the young women interrogate their own ambitions as well as the power structures that have shaped their education—and when the night spirals into violent and shocking acts of betrayal\, they come to learn that what’s done cannot be undone. \nWritten by Sophie McIntosh\nDirected by Jeanette Seisdedos

SUMMARY:Novato Theater company presents Spelling Bee
DESCRIPTION:An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives\, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words\, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing\, pout-inducing\, life un-affirming “ding” of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves a champion! At least the losers get a juice box. A riotous ride\, complete with audience participation\, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a delightful den of comedic genius.

SUMMARY:Mystic Theatre presents Vieux Farka Touré
DESCRIPTION:Often referred to as “The Hendrix of the Sahara”\, Vieux Farka Touré was born in Niafunké\, Mali in 1981. He is the son of legendary Malian guitar player Ali Farka Touré\, who died in 2006. Ali Farka Touré came from a historical tribe of soldiers\, and defied his parents in becoming a musician. When Vieux was in his teens\, he declared that he also wanted to be a musician. His father disapproved due to the pressures he had experienced being a musician. Rather\, he wanted Vieux to become a soldier. But with help from family friend the kora maestro Toumani Diabaté\, Vieux eventually convinced his father to give him his blessing to become a musician shortly before Ali passed.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVieux was initially a drummer / calabash player at Mali’s Institut National des Arts but secretly began playing guitar in 2001. Ali Farka Touré was weakened with cancer when Vieux announced that he was going to record an album. Ali recorded a couple of tracks with him\, and these recordings\, which can be heard on Vieux’s debut CD\, were amongst his final ones. It has been said that the senior Touré played rough mixes of these songs when people visited him in his final days\, at peace with\, and proud of\, his son’s talent as a musician. \nAs a passionate champion for the people of Mali and The Sahel\, Vieux founded the charity Amahrec Sahel in 2012. As part of Amahrec Sahel’s mission to support humanitarian reconstruction and culture\, the charity has provided school supplies for children\, supported an orphanage in Bamako and provided musical instruments for young musicians in Mali. Vieux is also the director of The Ali Farka Touré Foundation\, an international organization dedicated to the preservation of Ali’s legacy and the cultural growth of Mali.

SUMMARY:The California Theatre presents Spike Sikes and His Awesome Hotcakes
DESCRIPTION:Spike Sikes\, Awesome Hotcakes\, and a whole lot of music! With the perfect recipe of soul\, swing\, R&B\, jazz\, it’s going to be cooking down at The Cal! \nJust The Right Recipe… The most frequently heard comment after a Spike’s Awesome Hotcakes gig goes something like this – \n“No one is making this kind of music anymore!” \nBut what\, exactly\, is “this kind of music?” \nLike hotcakes themselves\, it goes by many names. Soul. Swing. Rhythm & Blues. Jazz. Jump. It’s a sound that’s classic and simple\, but when it’s done right\, it hits the spot\, and has you grinning from ear to ear. Spike has spent years searching for this sound. \nFrom the Texas blues joints he cut his teeth in to the funky halls of New Orleans\, he was always studying the music\, trying to find just the right recipe. It makes perfect sense that he found his bandmates in Sonoma County\, a music scene that has fostered many eclectic artists for decades.

SUMMARY:Uptown Theatre presents A Flock of Seagulls
DESCRIPTION:As well-known for their bizarrely teased haircuts as their hit single “I Ran (So Far Away)\,” A Flock of Seagulls were one of the infamous one-hit wonders of the new wave era. Growing out of the synth-heavy and ruthlessly stylish new romantic movement\, A Flock of Seagulls were a little too robotic and arrived a little too late to be true new romantics\, but their sleek dance-pop was forever indebted to the short-lived movement. The group benefitted considerably from MTV’s heavy rotation of the “I Ran” video in the summer of 1982. \nHairdresser Mike Score (lead vocals\, keyboards) formed A Flock of Seagulls with his brother Ali (drums) and fellow hairdresser Frank Maudsley (bass) in 1980\, adding guitarist Paul Reynolds several months later. The group released its debut EP on Cocteau Records early i n 1981\, and while the record failed to chart\, its lead track\, “Telecommunication\,” became an underground hit in Euro-disco and new wave clubs. The band signed a major-label contract with Jive by the end of the year\, and their eponymous debut album appeared in the spring of 1982. “I Ran (So Far Away)” was released as the first single from the album\, and MTV quickly picked up on its icily attractive video\, which featured long shots of Mike Score and his distinctive\, cascading hair. The single climbed into the American Top Ten\, taking the album along with it. In the U.K.\, “I Ran” didn’t make the Top 40\, but “Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You)” reached number ten later that year; in America\, that single became a Top 40 hit in 1983\, after “Space Age Love Song” peaked at number 30. “Wishing” was taken from the group’s second album\, Listen (1983)\, which was moderately successful. The band released 1984’s The Story of a Young Heart failed to produce any hit singles but Reynolds left after the album and was replaced by Gary Steadnin; the band also added keyboardist Chris Chryssaphis. The new lineup was showcased on 1986’s Dream Come True. Shortly after its release\, the band broke up. Mike Score assembled a new lineup of A Flock of Seagulls in 1989\, releasing the single “Magic” and touring the U.S.A. The band continued to tour worldwide\, although with major changes to its members\, and in 1996 released a new album\, The Light at the End of the World.

SUMMARY:Luther Burbank Center presents 50th San Francisco Comedy Competition Semi-Finals
DESCRIPTION:One of the most prestigious comedy events in North America\, the San Francisco Comedy Competition is an outrageously funny evening\, where you will see the comedy stars of tomorrow competing for their chance at fame and fortune. Hundreds of comedians audition each year. Only 30 are chosen. \nMany talented comedians have since emerged from this annual event to become major stars. The Comedy Competition develops its contestants by forcing them to adjust to a variety of audiences—comedy clubs\, colleges\, casinos\, and theaters—while enduring the strain of an extended road trip. \n1977 Comedy Competition Champ Dana Carvey went on to “Saturday Night Live.” 1979 Champ Marsha Warfield went on to “Night Court” to star as Roz the bailiff. 1982 finalist Kevin Pollak has achieved a major film career\, as has 1987 finalist Rob Schneider. Two first runners up\, Ellen DeGeneres in 1985 and Mark Curry in 1989\, landed their own TV series. \nWith this history\, the San Francisco Comedy Competition has earned its reputation as an important showcase of young entertainers who will make it. \nGenerous underwriting provided by Lise L. Luttgens and Richard R. Johnson

SUMMARY:Sweetwater presents Ariel Posen with Zach Person
DESCRIPTION:For Ariel Posen\, songwriting and guitar playing have always gone hand-in-hand. He’s spent a decade building a bridge between those two worlds\, balancing his work as a hotshot instrumentalist — including collaborations with everyone from John Mayer to Tom Jones — with solo albums rooted in melody and autobiographical storytelling. The result is a career that’s every bit as diverse as his music. With performances at Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival\, his own Fender Stratocaster signature model\, and a powerful voice that matches his fretwork\, Posen explores uncharted territory\, blurring the lines between genre and generation along the way. \n\nOn his latest release\, Bannatyne\, that exploration leads Posen back to the place where everything began. Named after an avenue in his hometown of Winnipeg\, Manitoba\, it’s a record about reexamining one’s past in order to fully appreciate the present. Woven into the album’s 12 songs are larger-than-life riffs and upbeat tempos (a nod to the 1990s rock music that soundtracked Posen’s childhood)\, along with the syncopated grooves and explorative\, unexpected textures that have always steered his work. Equally influenced by the raw energy of his live shows — where Posen has been known to plug in and stretch out\, showcasing the chops that prompted Rolling Stone to call him “a modern-day guitar hero” — and the tight craft of his songwriting\, Bannatyne is a full-circle snapshot of an artist in evolution\, chasing down new horizons while still honouring his musical roots.

SUMMARY:Mystic Theatre presents Carsie Blanton plus Burning Hell
DESCRIPTION:Carsie Blanton is a songwriter with hooks\, chutzpah\, and revolutionary optimism. A radical folk artist in the tradition of Woody Guthrie\, her infectious melodies and lyrical wit keep listeners rapt while she conjures spirits of vaudeville\, campfire singalongs\, and punk rock. Blanton and her road-tested band deploy humor\, camaraderie\, and considerable musical muscle to enroll each audience in a rare vision of hope and solidarity. \nIn addition to writing and performing music\, Carsie works as a political organizer and activist. In fall of 2025\, she participated in the Global Sumud Flotilla\, a direct action to bring humanitarian aid to Gaza by sailboat. In early October\, after a month at sea\, she was imprisoned in Israel for five days along with hundreds of her comrades. \nSoon after\, Blanton released The Little Flame\, a song of solidarity covered widely on social media during her detention. The Little Flame features background vocals from Irish band Ye Vagabonds and Carsie’s Palestinian/New Zealander prison-mate Rana Hamida\, and appears on her latest album\, The Red Album Vol II. \nAfter two decades spent on the road\, Blanton has amassed a dedicated fan base and a small menagerie of viral hits and regularly sells out mid-size venues across the U.S. and Europe. 2026 will find her touring heavily with her own band and in collaboration with Canadian folk-punk rabblerousers The Burning Hell\, as well as continuing her organizing work with Artists Against Apartheid and the Party for Socialism and Liberation. \nThe Burning Hell is the musical project of songwriter Mathias Kom and multi-instrumentalist Ariel Sharratt. Their narrative-driven songs are packed with literary\, historical\, and pop-cultural subjects\, incorporating a frequent fixation on apocalypse and ruin into work that celebrates participation in a surprising\, wry\, and even occasionally beautiful world. Based in the woods of Prince Edward Island\, Canada\, The Burning Hell emphasizes connection and commitment to the political power of sharing music.

SUMMARY:Marin Theatre presents Death of a Salesman
DESCRIPTION:Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman is a work of deep and revealing beauty\, that remains one of the most profound achievements in American theater. \nSet in late 1940s Brooklyn and told through a montage of memories\, dreams\, and arguments of the protagonist traveling salesman Willy Loman who is despondent with his life and appears to be slipping into senility. Several tragic\, soul-searching revelations – concerning his wife\, his sons and his business associates – underscore how his quest for the “American Dream” kept him blind to the people who truly loved him. \nArthur Miller had been thinking about a play about a salesman for years. He also had new interest in the simultaneity of the past and present. Miller sought to “do a play without any transitions at all\, dialogue that would simply leap from bone to bone of a skeleton that would not for an instant cease being added to\, an organism as strictly economic as a leaf\, as trim as an ant.”

SUMMARY:Uptown Theatre presents Samantha Fish with The Zac Schulze Gang: Paper Doll Live World Tour
DESCRIPTION:Samantha Fish\, a leading guitarist of her generation\, is known for her boldness\, musicianship\, and emotional depth. A multi-award-winning festival headliner\, she’s celebrated for explosive live shows\, fearless songwriting\, and artistic command. Her second GRAMMY nomination recognizes Paper Doll\, an album of nine powerful\, defiant songs. With her upcoming live album\, Paper Doll Live\, Fish showcases the electrifying stage presence that defines her career. \n“Truly\, this is for the fans\,” Fish says of making her first official live record. “We’ve had numerous requests over the years. Paper Doll felt so great on stage — it felt like the perfect time to showcase the band and our live show.” \nRecorded at the historic Bijou Theatre in Knoxville\, the album bottles the kind of electricity that can’t be manufactured in a studio. The room’s natural warmth and acoustics created an ideal backdrop\, elevated even further by the addition of The McCrary Sisters. “Their voices lifted every song\,” Fish explains. “I love beautiful backing vocals — they pack an emotional punch. I’ve been a fan of them for years\, so that was really special for me.” \nThe energy in the theater was undeniable. Fans traveled from across the country for the recording. “Our fans aren’t afraid to travel\,” she says. “When we announced this show\, people got excited. I think that build-up always helps make a better show.” The result is a performance that feels both celebratory and ferocious — a band fully locked in\, feeding off a crowd that knows every lyric. \nWhile Paper Doll in the studio marked a breakthrough in Fish’s self-possession — “I took everything I had and slammed it right on the table\,” she said of that album — the live setting strips away polish and leaves only instinct. “There’s a fire that comes across in live performance that doesn’t always translate in studio albums\,” Fish notes. “The stage lays all of that bare.”

SUMMARY:Uptown Theatre presents José González
DESCRIPTION:José González is in a class by himself. Hailed by Rolling Stone as “someone whose subtle\, carefully crafted music delivers rewards to listeners who know how to wait\,” González’s stellar career can only be described as a dream. From selling out tours on virtually every continent to headlining prestigious festivals around the world to being asked to perform at 2020’s Nobel Prize Award Ceremony and seeing his recorded music exceed 1 billion streams\, González is one of the most exciting and in-demand touring artists working today. Whether appearing alone with his guitar or with a 20-piece orchestra or choosing between duo and trio formats\, his performances are never merely shows – they are events. And González has every intention of continuing this tradition as he prepares his fully solo tour in support of the eagerly awaited release of his fifth studio album\, AGAINST THE DYING OF THE LIGHT.  The album provides a welcome reminder of the Gothenburg\, Sweden-based artist’s understated appeal and unabashed intimacy\, a quality Billboard praised as “one of the most recognizable sounds in indie rock.”
