Set in 1980s New York City\, a gay man is abandoned by his lover when he contracts the AIDS virus\, while a closeted Mormon lawyer’s marriage to his pill-popping wife stalls. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Widely described as one of the greatest plays of the 20th century\, Angels in America is a complex\, dynamic\, sometimes surrealistic examination of the AIDS crisis and homosexuality in the United States\, while touching on universal issues including change\, loss\, identity\, and the challenges of finding community in an increasingly fractured society. \nPresented in the round\, our production of Angels in America places the audience onstage\, creating an immersive and deeply intimate theatrical experience unlike anything else in Sonoma County. We’ll touch upon the rich chanson repertoire of the great impressionist composers Debussy and Ravel; we’ll explore Paul Hindemith’s grim madrigals and touching chansons; we’ll do a deep dive into Benjamin Britten\, including his great Rejoice in the Lamb\, with organ accompaniment and with lyrics by the eccentric Christopher Smart. Samuel Barber will make an appearance\, as well as a number of living composers. And—wait for it!— a bit of jazz just might be heard as we usher out our season in style!

DESCRIPTION:Join Paige Braddock and Mary Shyne as they talk about creating graphic novels for both young adults and early readers. They will be sharing excerpts from their most recent work and talking about character and story development. \nPaige Braddock is an award-winning creator and Creative Director Emeritus at Charles M. Schulz’s Studio in Santa Rosa. Her graphic novels for kids include Stinky Cecil and Peanut\, Butter\, & Crackers\, which won a Beverly Cleary Children’s Choice Award. And have been translated into multiple languages. The fifth book in the Peanut\, Butter\, & Crackers series\, Christmas Surprise\, was recently released by Nosy Crow in the UK and Greece. Paige’s Eisner-nominated comic strip\, Jane’s World\, was the first gay-themed comic work to receive online distribution by a national media syndicate in the U.S. The comic strip compiled its 20-year run in 2018. \nMary Shyne is a Chicago-area native\, who spent a decade in New York working in publishing before getting her MFA at the Center for Cartoon Studies. She currently lives in the Bay Area where she works on all things Snoopy at Charles M Schulz’s Studio. Mary’s debut graphic novel\, You and Me on Repeat\, was nominated for the ALA’s William C. Morris Award and named a Best Book of 2025 by New York Public Library.
