SUMMARY:Luther Burbank Center presents 50th San Francisco Comedy Competition Semi-Finals
DESCRIPTION:One of the most prestigious comedy events in North America\, the San Francisco Comedy Competition is an outrageously funny evening\, where you will see the comedy stars of tomorrow competing for their chance at fame and fortune. Hundreds of comedians audition each year. Only 30 are chosen. \nMany talented comedians have since emerged from this annual event to become major stars. The Comedy Competition develops its contestants by forcing them to adjust to a variety of audiences—comedy clubs\, colleges\, casinos\, and theaters—while enduring the strain of an extended road trip. \n1977 Comedy Competition Champ Dana Carvey went on to “Saturday Night Live.” 1979 Champ Marsha Warfield went on to “Night Court” to star as Roz the bailiff. 1982 finalist Kevin Pollak has achieved a major film career\, as has 1987 finalist Rob Schneider. Two first runners up\, Ellen DeGeneres in 1985 and Mark Curry in 1989\, landed their own TV series. \nWith this history\, the San Francisco Comedy Competition has earned its reputation as an important showcase of young entertainers who will make it. \nGenerous underwriting provided by Lise L. Luttgens and Richard R. Johnson

SUMMARY:Sweetwater presents Ariel Posen with Zach Person
DESCRIPTION:For Ariel Posen\, songwriting and guitar playing have always gone hand-in-hand. He’s spent a decade building a bridge between those two worlds\, balancing his work as a hotshot instrumentalist — including collaborations with everyone from John Mayer to Tom Jones — with solo albums rooted in melody and autobiographical storytelling. The result is a career that’s every bit as diverse as his music. With performances at Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival\, his own Fender Stratocaster signature model\, and a powerful voice that matches his fretwork\, Posen explores uncharted territory\, blurring the lines between genre and generation along the way. \n\nOn his latest release\, Bannatyne\, that exploration leads Posen back to the place where everything began. Named after an avenue in his hometown of Winnipeg\, Manitoba\, it’s a record about reexamining one’s past in order to fully appreciate the present. Woven into the album’s 12 songs are larger-than-life riffs and upbeat tempos (a nod to the 1990s rock music that soundtracked Posen’s childhood)\, along with the syncopated grooves and explorative\, unexpected textures that have always steered his work. Equally influenced by the raw energy of his live shows — where Posen has been known to plug in and stretch out\, showcasing the chops that prompted Rolling Stone to call him “a modern-day guitar hero” — and the tight craft of his songwriting\, Bannatyne is a full-circle snapshot of an artist in evolution\, chasing down new horizons while still honouring his musical roots.

SUMMARY:Sweetwater presents Carsie Blanton–SOLD OUT
DESCRIPTION:Carsie Blanton is a songwriter with hooks\, chutzpah\, and revolutionary optimism. A radical folk artist in the tradition of Woody Guthrie\, her infectious melodies and lyrical wit keep listeners rapt while she conjures spirits of vaudeville\, campfire singalongs\, and punk rock. Blanton and her road-tested band deploy humor\, camaraderie\, and considerable musical muscle to enroll each audience in a rare vision of hope and solidarity.\n\nIn addition to writing and performing music\, Carsie works as a political organizer and activist. In fall of 2025\, she participated in the Global Sumud Flotilla\, a direct action to bring humanitarian aid to Gaza by sailboat. In early October\, after a month at sea\, she was imprisoned in Israel for five days along with hundreds of her comrades.\n\nSoon after\, Blanton released The Little Flame\, a song of solidarity covered widely on social media during her detention. The Little Flame features background vocals from Irish band Ye Vagabonds and Carsie’s Palestinian/New Zealander prison-mate Rana Hamida\, and appears on her latest album\, The Red Album Vol II.\n\nSOLD OUT!  If you have tickets you can no longer use or are looking for tickets\, please visit our official partners at Cash or Trade:  https://cashortra.de/carsie-blanton-sweetwater-music-hall-official-exchange.

SUMMARY:Raven Performing Arts Theater presents Sweeney Todd
DESCRIPTION:Sweeney Todd is largely considered one of Stephen Sondheim’s masterpieces. With it\, he aimed to create a musical that could “scare the hell out of everyone\,” and yet\, somehow\, be funny. \nThe story centers around Sweeney Todd\, an unjustly exiled barber who returns to London\, seeking vengeance against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. The road to revenge leads Todd to Mrs. Lovett\, a resourceful proprietress of a failing pie shop\, above which\, he opens a new barber practice. Mrs. Lovett’s luck sharply shifts when Todd’s thirst for blood inspires the integration of an ingredient into her meat pies that has the people of 19th Century London lining up…and the carnage has only just begun!
