DESCRIPTION:Celebrate opening night of the 28th annual Healdsburg Jazz Festival with the great vocalist Lisa Fischer! Lisa’s voice can feel like a force of nature\, swelling from a quiet murmur to a gale-force roar within the space of a syllable. Her singular journey is marked by collaborations with the most formidable artists in rock\, R&B\, jazz\, and beyond\, as she spent two decades singing background for icons like The Rolling Stones\, Luther Vandross\, Sting\, and Tina Turner. Her chart-topping R&B hit “How Can I Ease the Pain?” propelled her 1991 debut album\, So Intense\, to a Grammy Award. \nFeatured in the Academy Award-winning documentary Twenty Feet From Stardom\, she decided the time was ripe to define her own musical identity. Lisa has also forged a particularly deep connection with Philadelphia piano great Orrin Evans and his trio\, featuring Clarence Penn on drums\, and James Genus on bass. \nThis concert is underwritten by Healdsburg Jazz Patrons Howard & Barbara Wollner\, and Gary Jaffe.

SUMMARY:Raven Performing Arts Theater presents Little Shop of Horrors
DESCRIPTION:“A deviously delicious Broadway and Hollywood sci-fi smash musical\, Little Shop of Horrors has devoured the hearts of theater-goers for over 30 years.”\nHoward Ashman and Alan Menken gave the world this camp classic in 1982. They based musical (loosely) on the low-budget 1960 black comedy film The Little Shop of Horrors\, with Menken’s score featuring spectacular music: early 1960s-style rock and roll\, doo-wop\, and early Motown. \nThe story centers on meek floral assistant Seymour Krelborn\, who stumbles across a new breed of plant he names “Audrey II” after his coworker crush. This foul-mouthed\, R&B-singing carnivore promises unending fame and fortune to the down-and-out Krelborn as long as he keeps feeding it BLOOD. Over time\, though\, Seymour discovers Audrey II’s out-of-this-world origins and its intent toward global domination!

SUMMARY:Raven Performing Arts Theater presents Much Ado About Nothing
DESCRIPTION:It’s Shakespeare in the Piazza at Bacchus Landing! \nWhile Claudio and Hero fall in love and get engaged\, the villainous Don John tricks Claudio into believing Hero is unfaithful\, leading him to publicly humiliate her at the altar. Meanwhile\, their friends conspire to make the sparring Beatrice and Benedick fall in love\, and they eventually confess their feelings for each other. The play’s climax\, in pure Shakespearean form\, involves a faked death\, a confession of Don John’s plot\, and a happy ending with a double wedding – of course! \nBacchus Landing’s wood-fired pizza will be available for purchase\, and wine by the glass or bottle will also be available for purchase from selected wineries each evening (see the schedule\, below). Sorry\, no outside food or drink allowed except for water bottles. Remember\, Sonoma County evenings get chilly even in the summer. We advise you to bring a sweater\, jacket\, or hoodie in case you need to bundle up after sunset! \nDoors open at 6:30 pm. Come early to enjoy Bacchus Landing wood-fired pizza and select wines! Free parking is available and the premises are wheelchair accessible.

SUMMARY:Raven Performing Arts Theater presents Who Will Dance with Pancho Villa?
DESCRIPTION:Who Will Dance with Pancho Villa? played to sold-out audiences in January. First performed off-Broadway in 1994\, the playwrights updated the story with the introduction of the Ballet Folklórico Legado de Mi Alegría de Cloverdale Ca while developing the play further through the Raven Players’ ScripTease program. It is the story of a young Chicano from Chicago\, lured to the East Coast by an Ivy League scholarship. As he tries to make a life there\, he neglects family relationships and deep cultural roots established throughout generations. It takes his mother’s nearly fatal heart attack\, help from a Jewish therapist\, and the visitation of the spirits of his long dead relatives (and of his historical idol\, Pancho Villa) to help him realize what he’s lost\, and how to get it back. Dancing spirits\, who are intertwined throughout the play\, help remind “Chicano” of the joy in dancing\, especially when dancing is much more than dancing.
