DESCRIPTION:Tony Kushner’s Angels in America\, Part One: Millennium Approaches won the 1993 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the 1993 Tony Award for Best Play. Set in 1980s New York City\, a gay man is abandoned by his lover when he contracts the AIDS virus\, while a closeted Mormon lawyer’s marriage to his pill-popping wife stalls. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Widely described as one of the greatest plays of the 20th century\, Angels in America is a complex\, dynamic\, sometimes surrealistic examination of the AIDS crisis and homosexuality in the United States\, while touching on universal issues including change\, loss\, identity\, and the challenges of finding community in an increasingly fractured society. \nPresented in the round\, our production of Angels in America places the audience onstage\, creating an immersive and deeply intimate theatrical experience unlike anything else in Sonoma County. Because seating surrounds the stage on three sides\, ticket availability is extremely limited\, and performances are already filling quickly. This fun\, high-energy adventure celebrates courage\, friendship\, and finding your home\, no matter how tangled things get. \nFounded in Los Angeles\, California\, in 1980\, Young At Heart Theatre is a program designed to bring arts education to children of all ages\, interests\, and backgrounds. Now\, as the resident youth theatre company at the Raven Performing Arts Theater\, we bring that same commitment to Sonoma County. \nWe believe that theatre and the arts can impact the world and change it\, one person at a time. There are many future directors\, actors\, producers\, and more just waiting for the opportunity to explore and discover their talents. \nThis program is one from the heart\, and founded on the idea that every child should have access to arts education.
