SUMMARY:Luther Burbank Center presents Three Dog Night
DESCRIPTION:Iconic American band\, Three Dog Night\, now celebrating its 6th decade\, boasts some of the most astonishing chart statistics in popular music with 21 consecutive Billboard Top 40 hits\, including three #1 singles and 12 straight RIAA Certified Gold LPs. \nCreated in 1968 by Irish-born Danny Hutton\, the group was conceived to feature three strong vocalists who shared leads and blended in exquisite three-part harmony\, complemented by four ace instrumentalists to create a self-contained unit. This ultimately became Three Dog Night’s signature sound in the studio and live on the road. Three Dog Night continues to perform more than 80 shows a year\, thrilling multigenerational audiences by delivering those larger-than-life songs with customary impeccable harmonies over a hard-driving rock-and-roll foundation. \nThis year\, Three Dog Night will release Enter\, its first studio album in nearly 40 years. Again working with Bill Cooper from the original production team\, Hutton and the band present a body of eclectic material\, this time including songs penned by Hutton. The project was recorded at Canyon Hut studios\, adjacent to the house in Laurel Canyon Los Angeles that Danny purchased from shock rocker Alice Cooper over 4 decades ago.

SUMMARY:Luther Burbank Center presents The Stray Cats with special guest MoonShine
DESCRIPTION:The Stray Cats\, the band that put rockabilly music back on the record charts in the early ’80s\, scored several big hits on both sides of the Atlantic. All thanks to genuine musical chops that evoke the best players of rockabilly’s original heyday and a striking visual 1950s style made contemporary with exaggerated pompadours and colorful tattoos. \nThe Stray Cats was formed on Long Island in 1979 by guitarist/vocalist Brian Setzer\, upright bass player Lee Rocker\, and drummer Slim Jim Phantom\, all who shared a love for Rockabilly music. After banging around New York for a few months in the summer of 1980\, they saw a kid in a pompadour on the cover of UK magazine NME and hopped a plane to London\, where a rockabilly revival movement was just beginning to emerge. Their massive hits and videos include “Runaway Boys\,” “Rock This Town\,” “Stray Cat Strut” “(She’s) Sexy + 17\,” and “I Won’t Stand in Your Way.”

SUMMARY:Luther Burbank Center presents 50th San Francisco Comedy Competition Semi-Finals
DESCRIPTION:One of the most prestigious comedy events in North America\, the San Francisco Comedy Competition is an outrageously funny evening\, where you will see the comedy stars of tomorrow competing for their chance at fame and fortune. Hundreds of comedians audition each year. Only 30 are chosen. \nMany talented comedians have since emerged from this annual event to become major stars. The Comedy Competition develops its contestants by forcing them to adjust to a variety of audiences—comedy clubs\, colleges\, casinos\, and theaters—while enduring the strain of an extended road trip. \n1977 Comedy Competition Champ Dana Carvey went on to “Saturday Night Live.” 1979 Champ Marsha Warfield went on to “Night Court” to star as Roz the bailiff. 1982 finalist Kevin Pollak has achieved a major film career\, as has 1987 finalist Rob Schneider. Two first runners up\, Ellen DeGeneres in 1985 and Mark Curry in 1989\, landed their own TV series. \nWith this history\, the San Francisco Comedy Competition has earned its reputation as an important showcase of young entertainers who will make it. \nGenerous underwriting provided by Lise L. Luttgens and Richard R. Johnson
