SUMMARY:Sweetwater Music Hall presents David Nelson Band
DESCRIPTION:The David Nelson Band has been recording and performing around the country since 1994. Their broad musical palette spans the Almost Acoustic style that Nelson played with Jerry Garcia\, through roots rock n roll\, and psychedelic country-rock. The DNB perform David’s compositions (many co-written with Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter)\, select covers\, and several Grateful Dead classics upon which Nelson appeared on the original album releases. These stylistic elements\, combined with plenty of spontaneous free form improvisation\, create a sound that is uniquely David Nelson Band. Though the original songs are mostly written by Nelson\, the development of all the material is a fully collaborative effort. These days the DNB only tour select areas a few times a year\, as the individual band members are in high demand with other successful touring acts. Their loyal and enthusiastic fans relish these special times to reunite at Nelson family gatherings. DNB shows are a joyous reunion for all – a communal gathering where regulars and newcomers all feel part of an extended family. \n\nDavid Nelson – guitar/ vocals – is a founding member of the New Riders of the Purple Sage and long time musical partner of Jerry Garcias dating back to 1962 in the pre-Grateful Dead bluegrass band\, The Wildwood Boys. Nelson was also a member of the Jerry Garcia Acoustic Band (and appears on their 1988 album release “Almost Acoustic” and 2010’s “Ragged But Right”) and performed on three Grateful Dead albums – “Aoxomoxoa”\, “Workingmans Dead” & “American Beauty” – playing the iconic electric guitar solo on Box of Rain. Nelson has also performed as a member of Phil Lesh and Friends.\n\nBarry Sless – lead guitar/ pedal steel – currently tours with Bobby Weir and Wolf Bros\, Skeleton Crewe and Moonalice. He was a frequent member of Phil Lesh and Friends touring and local lineups since 2004. He’s toured with Chris Robinsons Green Leaf Rustlers (and appears on their 2020 album release\, From Within Marin)\, Kingfish\, Cowboy Jazz\, and Great American Taxi. Barry is a founding member of DNB.

SUMMARY:JaM Cellars Presents Y&T
DESCRIPTION:Before Mötley Crüe\, before RATT\, even before there was a Metallica\, Y&T was slogging away in sweaty rock clubs around America. When the band formed in the early 1970s\, little did they know they would set the standard for hard rock bands that trailed. Many of the biggest acts of the ’80s became popular opening for headliners Y&T—and cut their teeth on the band\, as evidenced by the Y&T mentions in tell-all books by acts such as Metallica and Mötley Crüe. \nBorn in Oakland\, California\, Y&T is one of the San Francisco Bay Area’s own innovators of the hard rock sound. Whether performing to a festival crowd of fifty-thousand or in an intimate nightclub\, Y&T’s high-energy set and passionate performances still captivate legions of fans around the globe\, proving Y&T’s music timeless. \nOriginally formed as Yesterday and Today\, the initial powerhouse quartet—featuring Dave Meniketti (lead guitar/lead vocals)\, Phil Kennemore (bass)\, Leonard Haze (drums)\, and Joey Alves (rhythm guitar)—tore through the ’70s and ’80s with their own brand of hard rock. After two ’70s albums on London Records\, they shortened their name to Y&T and released eight albums on A&M in the ’80s. Two more albums with Geffen Records marked an era of change with Jimmy DeGrasso (Alice Cooper\, Suicidal Tendencies\, Megadeth) on drums and Stef Burns (Alice Cooper\, Berlin\, Huey Lewis) on guitar.

SUMMARY:Mystic Theatre presents Marty O'Reilly Trio
DESCRIPTION:Raw\, road-tested\, and impossible not to move to—this trio brings serious groove and storytelling straight to the stage. \nThere’s something about Marty O’Reilly’s music that feels like it’s always been here—like an old story being told in a new way. His voice is raw and real\, his guitar playing gritty and soulful. It’s music that doesn’t try to be anything other than honest\, and that’s exactly why it hits so hard. \nHe pulls inspiration from the roots of Americana; his sound references folk greats like Woody Guthrie\, blues legends like Howlin’ Wolf\, gospel pioneers like Sister Rosetta Thorpe\, and master storytellers like Tom Waits. It’s a sound that captivates and connects audiences and leaves them wanting more. \nHis live shows aren’t just concerts—they’re cathartic experiences. One moment it’s soft and haunting\, the next it’s wild and electric. The kind that stay with you long after the lights come up. \nBut it’s not just about the sound. Marty’s songs dig deep into the human experience—loneliness\, connection\, love\, loss. Whether it’s an intimate solo set or a full band show\, he makes every audience feel like they’re part of the story. \nOver the years\, Marty has built a dedicated following through relentless touring and staying true to his craft. He’s shared the stage with artists like Shakey Graves\, St. Paul & The Broken Bones\, Sarah Jarosz\, and Alice O’Donovan and played at festivals like Bottlerock\, SXSW\, and High Sierra Music Festival\, but his focus has always been on making music that means something. \nMarty has poured everything into his music—spending years on the road\, self-funding his albums\, and navigating the ups and downs of life as an independent artist\, husband\, and father. But through it all\, he’s never lost sight of why he started: to make honest music that connects. \nIf you’re looking for music that feels real\, that makes you stop and listen\, Marty O’Reilly is someone you need to hear.

DESCRIPTION:JaZzLine INSTITUTE presents Blues Explosion\, a powerhouse lineup featuring four of the finest blues artists from the Bay Area and beyond. Get ready for blues\, blues\, and more blues as this slammin’ band and these renowned artists each raise the roof and let loose in their own unique style. Equally at home in jazz\, blues\, R&B\, gospel\, funk\, latin\, and hip-hop\, she has developed her own authentic sound and unique delivery\, delighting audiences young and old across the globe. After beginning her career with gospel music\, Faye Carol made her name singing with Oakland blues and funk legend Johnny Talbot & De Thangs before forming her own trio and gaining fame in San Francisco’s jazz\, blues\, and cabaret clubs of the 1970s and 80s. Over a 60-year career in music\, this living legend has developed her own unique acoustic sound and style in Black Music – drawing from funk\, blues\, gospel\, and straight ahead swingin’ – and cultivated an audience that remains as diverse as her uplifting music. She has maintained a high level of musicianship in her groups\, mentoring some of the Bay Area’s brightest young talent including pianist Benny Green\, bassist/composer Marcus Shelby\, and her daughter\, pianist/composer Kito Kamili. Her vocal proteges include international superstars Kehlani and Ledisi.\n\nLady Bianca is a blues\, gospel\, and R&B vocalist/pianist\, artist\, and producer with roots in Kansas City\, MO.  Raised by a father who taught her Texas Blues piano as a child\, Bianca’s formal training began at age nine with the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.  Her exceptional talent garnered her a full four year scholarship and she went on to study music theory\, composition\, and received her operatic vocal and piano training.  Bianca’s first paying gig was at the age of seventeen with Quinn Harris & The Masterminds and it was Harris who bestowed the title of Lady on Bianca as she was “so pure and conservative”.  Since then\, Lady Bianca has evolved into an icon in the San Francisco Bay Area and is widely known as the “Queen of the Blues and Gospel”.  With her partner\, Stanley Lippitt\, she has amassed a catalog of over 300 songs\, and has produced\, arranged and recorded 9 albums\, via her own label\, Magic-O Records  – Home of the Mighty Oakland Sound.\n\nAlvon Johnson is one of the most versatile musicians\, singers\, and entertainers on the music scene today. He travels the world singing and swinging jazz standards with Big Bands. He also gallops the globe performing the songs that he performed while working with the rock and roll hall of fame group\, The Coasters. When he travels to Russia he is referred to as the “King of the Blues” and the “Ambassador of the Blues”. His love and respect for the American Art form is shared by large and enthusiastic audiences all over the world.\n\nAlabama Mike is a hard-driving blues singer who will remind you of the early original blues legends\, whom you may have heard on the Chess\, Duke\, Trumpet and Galaxy Record labels\, and even maybe some Elmore James\, Buddy Guy\, Little Junior Parker\, Little Johnny Taylor\, and BB King (in his early years). He can blaze up a good old blues shuffle and have you moving and grooving\, then effortlessly transport you through his unique style\, offering a soulful gospel tinged ballad\, and his jovial style of storytelling will send you through a range of exhilarating emotions.

SUMMARY:Green Music Center presents San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus Dolly! A Pride Show
DESCRIPTION:Rhinestones. Wigs. Heart. The icon\, the legend\, Dolly Parton is our muse for Pride this year. She taught us how to be unapologetically ourselves\, lead with kindness\, and play a guitar with acrylics on. She’s inspired a new generation of misfits\, dreamers\, and drag queens with her iconic looks\, only to be outshined by her message of radical compassion. Did someone say Dolly look-alike contest? Come dressed ready to SHINE!

SUMMARY:The California Theatre presents Gary Numan with support from TREMOURS
DESCRIPTION:May\, 1979. It’s an ordinary Thursday evening\, which means it’s time for Top of the Pops. Amidst a zeitgeist of punk and disco\, the show suddenly appears to be interrupted by a transmission from the future. A luminous synth riff echoes out\, a beat drives on and up steps an otherworldly figure – part robot\, part alien – to deliver an enigmatic lyric depicting some kind of android existence in a dystopian future. It’s Gary Numan fronting Tubeway Army for their breakthrough hit ‘Are ‘Friends’ Electric?’. \nOf the millions that are watching\, few would’ve recognized that this moment foreshadows the shape of music to come\, from synth-pop to industrial and alt-pop. That\, however\, can’t stop it igniting the imagination of an audience that would swell into a devoted following. \nFast-forward to January\, 2021. Numan’s first single ‘Intruder’ (from the Intruder album) pulsates ominously as if it’s soundtracking an imminent threat. As austere synths loom like shadows and industrial beats are detonated\, the beguiling hook towers like a beacon in the darkness. It’s visionary and venomous\, with a narrative that imagines the Earth growing angry at mankind’s actions\, and more than willing to fight back. In the accompanying video\, Numan looks even more out of time than he did back in 1979\, like an intergalactic refugee fighting for his own existence.
