SUMMARY:Going to Extremes: A John Waters 80th Birthday Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Born in Baltimore\, MD in 1946\, John Waters was drawn to movies at an early age\, particularly exploitation movies with lurid ad campaigns. He subscribed to Variety at the age of twelve\, absorbing the magazine’s factual information and its lexicon of insider lingo. This early education would prove useful as the future director began his career giving puppet shows for children’s birthday parties. As a teenager\, Waters began making 8-mm underground movies influenced by the likes of Jean-Luc Godard\, Walt Disney\, Andy Warhol\, Russ Meyer\, Ingmar Bergman\, and Herschell Gordon Lewis.

SUMMARY:Sweetwater Music Hall presents Teal’s After Party
DESCRIPTION:For the first time ever at Sweetwater\, Teal’s After Party arrives—a full-blown dance conspiracy in motion. Fronted by powerhouse vocalist Teal Collins—whose gold and platinum credits (Third Eye Blind\, Motown’s Shanice Williams) and worldwide touring with The Mother Truckers fuel her signature mix of soul\, grit\, and unstoppable energy. \nTeal has shared stages with legends like Willie Nelson\, Merle Haggard\, George Jones\, Huey Lewis\, Jacob Dylan\, Norah Jones\, Clint Black\, and Reba McEntire—and that star-powered charisma now drives every After Party show. \nShe’s joined by vocalist Luq Frank\, whose soulful presence was shaped through performances with Van Morrison and Grammy-winning producer Narada Michael Walden. Together with a 9-piece band featuring a full horn section\, they deliver pure live music—no tracks\, no tricks—just high-energy performances of pop hits\, Motown\, disco\, rock\, and soul. \nFrom the first note to the last encore\, Teal’s After Party keeps the crowd on its feet. This isn’t just a cover band—it’s a world-class live experience led by two of the Bay Area’s most electrifying voices.

SUMMARY:Mystic Theatre presents Paul Thorn
DESCRIPTION:When it comes to songwriting\, less is more\, and simplicity is strength. Just ask Paul Thorn\, who’s spent three decades turning soulful grooves and small syllables into songs that pack a big wallop. Maybe he learned the power of minimalism from his years as a pro boxer; maybe it just comes naturally. But whether he’s targeting heads\, hearts\, hips or the occasional funny bone\, he somehow manages to condense large nuggets of wisdom into tight little mantras\, the kind embroiderers stitched onto pillows before internet memes existed.   \nThorn’s new album\, Life is Just A Vapor\, contains some beauties: “Life is a vapor\, let’s live it while we can”; “tough times don’t last\, but tough people do” (from “Tough Times Don’t Last”); “any mountain up ahead is just a hill” (from “Old Melodies”). They’re words of advice\, comfort\, support\, encouragement\, often meant to uplift\, especially in times of struggle.   \n“I like for people to be touched by music and get something from it\, something that they can take with them throughout the day\,” Thorn says. “Every song on this album\, there’s a message in it of some sort about how to live life.”  \nAmerican Blues Scene writer Don Wilcock calls Thorn “an everyman (who) addresses things we all think about\, but few can articulate with the kind of candor\, humor and folksy truth that immediately endear him to almost everyone lucky enough to hear his music.”

SUMMARY:Cloverdale Performing Arts Center presents Leading Ladies
DESCRIPTION:In this hilarious comedy\, two English Shakespearean actors\, Leo and Jack\, find themselves so down on their luck that they’re performing “Scenes from Shakespeare” on the Moose Lodge circuit in the Amish country of Pennsylvania.  \nBut then\, what luck!  They hear that dear old Florence of nearby York\, PA is about to die and leave her fortune to her two long lost English nephews whom she has never seen.  For Jack and Leo it is the work of an instant to turn themselves into nephews Max and Steve and grab the cash.  And that’s when the complications set in…  \nRomantic entanglements abound\, as Some Like It Hot meets Twelfth Night in this screwball comedy filled with bad behavior\, high heels and a world of comedy.

SUMMARY:JaM Cellars presents The English Beat
DESCRIPTION:The English Beat is a band with an energetic mix of musical styles and a sound like no other. The band’s unique sound has allowed it to endure for nearly four decades and appeal to fans\, young and old\, all over the world. \nWhen The English Beat (known as The Beat in their native England) rushed on to the music scene in 1979\, it was a time of massive social and political unrest and economic and musical upheaval. This set the stage for a period of unbridled musical creativity\, and thanks in large part to the Punk movement and it’s DIY approach to making music\, artists like The Beat were able to speak out and speak their mind on the news of the day\, as in “Stand Down Margaret”\, things that mattered to them and the youth culture\, as in “Get A Job”\, and universal matters of the heart and soul\, as in their classic hits “I Confess” and “Save It For Later”. \nThe Beat first came to prominence as founding members of the British Two Tone Ska movement\, with their classic first album “Just Can’t Stop It” fitting squarely in that genre. Along with their contemporaries The Specials\, The Selecter\, and Madness\, the band became an overnight sensation and one of the most popular and influential bands of that movement. \nHowever\, band leader Dave Wakeling never felt constrained by the movement. The band crossed over fluidly between soul\, reggae\, pop and punk\, and from these disparate pieces they created an infectious dance rhythm. \nThe band’s sound continued to evolve over their three studio albums\, through the General Public era (a band formed by Dave with The Beat’s toaster\, Ranking Roger)\, and it has continued its evolution with the forthcoming English Beat album “Here We Go Love”\, a PledgeMusic crowd-funded album set for a 2016 release\, the band’s first new album since 1982’s “Special Beat Service”. \nConsummate showman that he is\, Dave Wakeling continues to keep The Beat alive and strong\, touring the world as The English Beat with an amazing all-star ska backing band playing all the hits of The Beat\, General Public\, and songs from his new album “Here We Go Love”.

SUMMARY:Petaluma Butter & Eggs Days Parade & Festival
DESCRIPTION:“Americas’ Birthday – Petaluma Style” celebrates the nation’s 250th Birthday by honoring Petaluma’s deep agricultural roots and hometown spirit. This year’s Butter & Egg Days Parade recognizes the farmers\, families\, immigrants\, makers\, entrepreneurs\, and creatives whose hard work\, imagination\, and ingenuity reflect the enduring American Dream. This celebration also pays respect to the Indigenous peoples who first stewarded this land\, the courage of our founders\, and the dedication of the dairy and egg farming community that shaped our town. Rooted in community\, innovation\, and independence\, the parade celebrates the small-town spirit that continues to make Petaluma a vibrant place to call home. Head to Downtown Petaluma and celebrate with our community on this day of fun\, history\, and local pride! \nParade participants incorporate the theme “America’s Birthday – Petaluma Style” into their entry design. The theme gives nonprofits\, businesses\, organizations\, and individuals lots of options for showing off their creativity in their designs. All parade entries will be judged on how well their entry portrays this year’s theme – winners announced on the website! Check back later to see which entries take home the prizes and earn bragging rights. \n\nThe Butter & Egg Days festivities kick off on Saturday\, April 11 with the Opening Ceremonies at the Petaluma Historical Library and Museum (20 Fourth St)\, from Noon to 1pm. Mayor Kevin McDonnell will read a proclamation honoring the Grand Marshal and Good Egg. Come enjoy this display that shows the heart of our community. \nOne week later on Saturday\, April 18\, the Butter & Egg Days Parade steps off at noon and marches through the historic downtown. The parade showcases over 100 units with approximately 3\,000 participants and 200 volunteers. Clover Sonoma returns to lead the Clover Kids’ Parade\, which precedes the main parade at 11:30am with a procession of preschoolers and primary grade youngsters and their families. \nThe parade is surrounded by a Festival that spreads over four city blocks from 10am-5pm offering a wide variety of food\, crafts\, beverage gardens featuring the Lagunitas Beverage Garden on B Street\, two large kid areas featuring the Marin Health’s Kid Zone\, live music at the Farmhouse Artisan Market Music Stage\, Rosie’s Organic Harvest Market\, and more! New this year\, the Festival will feature the Healthy Petaluma Community Relaxation Lounge\, a quiet cool space to unwind and refresh\, located at Blue Zones\, 8 4th Street. This annual event aims to bring together the community for a day of fun and entertainment.

SUMMARY:The Rock and Roll Playhouse plays Music of Bob Marley + More for Kids
DESCRIPTION:The Rock and Roll Playhouse\, a family concert series hosted at historic music venues across the country\, allows kids to “move\, play and sing while listening to works from the classic-rock canon” (NY Times). Performing songs created by the most iconic musicians in rock history\, The Rock and Roll Playhouse band offers its core audience of families with children age ten and under games\, movement\, stories and an opportunity to rock out in an effort to educate children and explore their creativity. The Rock and Roll Playhouse is an early and often first introduction to a child’s lifelong journey with live music and rock and roll. See you at the show! \nThis concert for kids and families shares the music of Bob Marley with a new generation of music lovers but is not associated with or endorsed by the artist. All children must be accompanied by a parent or adult caregiver.  \nThe Rock and Roll Playhouse knows that little ears are sensitive\, so we turn down the volume at our shows.  However\, all kids experience music differently and you may find that your child is more comfortable wearing hearing protection earmuffs.

SUMMARY:Sweetwater presents The High Green Chilly Winds
DESCRIPTION:The High Green Chilly Winds manage to channel that elusive Dead vibe uniquely\, with wide-open guitar tones\, effortless three-part vocal harmonies\, choogling beats\, and yes\, plenty of tripped out\, shredded solos. The look\, the sound\, the atmosphere is uncanny. Far from being a historical re-enactment\, this band’s laissez faire flow infuses the band with a gentle spirit\, warmth\, and (dare we say it) authenticity. From their killer merch game to their eminently watchable YouTube channel\, they’re clearly having a real good time spreading the love. Strangely enough\, in a world overflowing with wax museum nostalgia and Deadly sentimentalism\, we need the Chilly Winds\, now more than ever.

SUMMARY:JaM Cellers presents An Evening with Matisyahu
DESCRIPTION:There is a spirit that hovers above the waters. It has been here since the beginning of creation\, yet it is just being born. Ancient Child is Matisyahu’s 8th full length studio album. In Jewish mysticism\, eight is the number beyond the natural cycle of the physical world.  As Matisyahu brings forth his eighth studio album\, the Ancient Child simultaneously reaches back in time and towards the future\, in search of the infinite divine light of redemption. Here\, Matisyahu finds himself reconnected with his Jewish identity and spirituality in a world post October 7th. \nIn a climate that has become obsessed with being “right” and defending its ego at all costs\, the Ancient Child investigates questions about history\, identity and destiny from the humility of a child through the wisdom of the of generations’ past. While Matisyahu had shifted his focus over the last decade to his personal life from his religion\, Ancient Child is a strong return to his love for Judaism and the deep existential quest to find universal meaning in the darkness. So what does Matisyahu come up with? \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhen the world turns to darkness\, humanity has a choice – hide in a corner or meet at the crossroads and find a way to come together.
