SUMMARY:JaM Cellars Presents Richard Thompson with Zara Phillips
DESCRIPTION:Richard Thompson’s musical influence cannot be overstated. Having co-founded the groundbreaking group Fairport Convention as a teenager in the ‘60s\, he and his bandmates invented the distinctive strain of British Folk Rock. He left the group by the age of 21 which was followed by a decade long musical partnership with his then-wife Linda\, to over 30 years as a highly successful solo artist. \nIn 2011\, Thompson received an OBE (Order of the British Empire) personally bestowed upon him by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace. The Los Angeles Times called him “the finest rock songwriter after Dylan and the best electric guitarist since Hendrix” and Rolling Stone has named him one of the Top 100 Guitarists of All Time. He has received lifetime achievement awards for songwriting from the BBC Radio 2 Awards\, the Americana Music Association\, and was awarded the prestigious Ivor Novello Award. His song “1952 Vincent Black Lightning” was named one of TIME Magazine’s “100 Greatest Songs Since 1923.” \nA wide range of musicians have recorded Thompson’s songs including Robert Plant\, Elvis Costello\, R.E.M.\, Sleater-Kinney\, Del McCoury\, Bonnie Raitt\, Tom Jones\, David Byrne\, Don Henley\, Los Lobos\, and many more. His massive body of work includes many Grammy nominated albums as well as numerous soundtracks\, including Werner Herzog’s Grizzly Man and 2019’s The Cold Blue. His genre defying mastery of both acoustic and electric guitar along with engaging energy and onstage wit continue to earn him new fans and a place as one of the most distinctive virtuosos and writers in Folk Rock history. \nZara Phillips is a singer and songwriter\, actor\, author\, and activist. As an adoptee herself\, much of her work is centered around the adoption world and is focused on improving understanding the lifelong impact of adoption. She is a mother of three and tours with her husband\, musician Richard Thompson. She divides her time between London and New Jersey.

SUMMARY:Sweetwater Music Hall presents Marshall Crenshaw with James Mastro
DESCRIPTION:Born in 1953 in Detroit\, Michigan\, Marshall Crenshaw learned to tune a guitar correctly at age ten and has been trying ever since. His first big break came in 1978 playing John Lennon in “Beatlemania”\, first as an understudy in New York\, then in the West Coast company followed by a national touring company. Removing himself from that situation in Feb. 1980\, Marshall settled in New York City. After crossing paths with the great and legendary Alan Betrock\, Marshall recorded his debut single “Something’s Gonna Happen” (for Betrock’s Shake Records label)\, which led to a deal with Warner Bros. His debut album\, Marshall Crenshaw\, was acclaimed as a masterpiece upon its release in 1982 and established him as a singular songwriter\, record maker\, and guitarist. The album spawned the hit single “Someday\, Someway\,” and other classics such as “(You’re My) Favorite Waste of Time\,” “Whenever You’re On My Mind” and “Cynical Girl.”\n\nOver the course of a career that’s spanned three decades\, 13 albums\, Grammy and Golden Globe nominations\, film and TV appearances (Buddy Holly in “La Bamba”) and thousands of performances\, Marshall Crenshaw’s musical output has maintained a consistent fidelity to the qualities of artfulness\, craftsmanship and passion\, and his efforts have been rewarded with the devotion of a broad and remarkably loyal fan base.\n\nAlong with touring around the country and the occasional recording project\, Marshall currently hosts his own radio show\, “The Bottomless Pit”\, every Saturday at 10 PM on New York’s WFUV. Other current projects include a documentary film-in progress about legendary record producer Tom Wilson. Says Crenshaw\, “This is a road that I never imagined taking before\, but it’s been amazing and is going great..”

SUMMARY:The California Theatre presents Gary Numan with support from TREMOURS
DESCRIPTION:May\, 1979. It’s an ordinary Thursday evening\, which means it’s time for Top of the Pops. Amidst a zeitgeist of punk and disco\, the show suddenly appears to be interrupted by a transmission from the future. A luminous synth riff echoes out\, a beat drives on and up steps an otherworldly figure – part robot\, part alien – to deliver an enigmatic lyric depicting some kind of android existence in a dystopian future. It’s Gary Numan fronting Tubeway Army for their breakthrough hit ‘Are ‘Friends’ Electric?’. \nOf the millions that are watching\, few would’ve recognized that this moment foreshadows the shape of music to come\, from synth-pop to industrial and alt-pop. That\, however\, can’t stop it igniting the imagination of an audience that would swell into a devoted following. \nFast-forward to January\, 2021. Numan’s first single ‘Intruder’ (from the Intruder album) pulsates ominously as if it’s soundtracking an imminent threat. As austere synths loom like shadows and industrial beats are detonated\, the beguiling hook towers like a beacon in the darkness. It’s visionary and venomous\, with a narrative that imagines the Earth growing angry at mankind’s actions\, and more than willing to fight back. In the accompanying video\, Numan looks even more out of time than he did back in 1979\, like an intergalactic refugee fighting for his own existence.

SUMMARY:Mystic Theatre presents Marty O'Reilly Trio
DESCRIPTION:Raw\, road-tested\, and impossible not to move to—this trio brings serious groove and storytelling straight to the stage. \nThere’s something about Marty O’Reilly’s music that feels like it’s always been here—like an old story being told in a new way. His voice is raw and real\, his guitar playing gritty and soulful. It’s music that doesn’t try to be anything other than honest\, and that’s exactly why it hits so hard. \nHe pulls inspiration from the roots of Americana; his sound references folk greats like Woody Guthrie\, blues legends like Howlin’ Wolf\, gospel pioneers like Sister Rosetta Thorpe\, and master storytellers like Tom Waits. It’s a sound that captivates and connects audiences and leaves them wanting more. \nHis live shows aren’t just concerts—they’re cathartic experiences. One moment it’s soft and haunting\, the next it’s wild and electric. The kind that stay with you long after the lights come up. \nBut it’s not just about the sound. Marty’s songs dig deep into the human experience—loneliness\, connection\, love\, loss. Whether it’s an intimate solo set or a full band show\, he makes every audience feel like they’re part of the story. \nOver the years\, Marty has built a dedicated following through relentless touring and staying true to his craft. He’s shared the stage with artists like Shakey Graves\, St. Paul & The Broken Bones\, Sarah Jarosz\, and Alice O’Donovan and played at festivals like Bottlerock\, SXSW\, and High Sierra Music Festival\, but his focus has always been on making music that means something. \nMarty has poured everything into his music—spending years on the road\, self-funding his albums\, and navigating the ups and downs of life as an independent artist\, husband\, and father. But through it all\, he’s never lost sight of why he started: to make honest music that connects. \nIf you’re looking for music that feels real\, that makes you stop and listen\, Marty O’Reilly is someone you need to hear.

SUMMARY:JaM Cellars Presents Y&T
DESCRIPTION:Before Mötley Crüe\, before RATT\, even before there was a Metallica\, Y&T was slogging away in sweaty rock clubs around America. When the band formed in the early 1970s\, little did they know they would set the standard for hard rock bands that trailed. Many of the biggest acts of the ’80s became popular opening for headliners Y&T—and cut their teeth on the band\, as evidenced by the Y&T mentions in tell-all books by acts such as Metallica and Mötley Crüe. \nBorn in Oakland\, California\, Y&T is one of the San Francisco Bay Area’s own innovators of the hard rock sound. Whether performing to a festival crowd of fifty-thousand or in an intimate nightclub\, Y&T’s high-energy set and passionate performances still captivate legions of fans around the globe\, proving Y&T’s music timeless. \nOriginally formed as Yesterday and Today\, the initial powerhouse quartet—featuring Dave Meniketti (lead guitar/lead vocals)\, Phil Kennemore (bass)\, Leonard Haze (drums)\, and Joey Alves (rhythm guitar)—tore through the ’70s and ’80s with their own brand of hard rock. After two ’70s albums on London Records\, they shortened their name to Y&T and released eight albums on A&M in the ’80s. Two more albums with Geffen Records marked an era of change with Jimmy DeGrasso (Alice Cooper\, Suicidal Tendencies\, Megadeth) on drums and Stef Burns (Alice Cooper\, Berlin\, Huey Lewis) on guitar.
