DESCRIPTION:Celebrate opening night of the 28th annual Healdsburg Jazz Festival with the great vocalist Lisa Fischer! Lisa’s voice can feel like a force of nature\, swelling from a quiet murmur to a gale-force roar within the space of a syllable. Her singular journey is marked by collaborations with the most formidable artists in rock\, R&B\, jazz\, and beyond\, as she spent two decades singing background for icons like The Rolling Stones\, Luther Vandross\, Sting\, and Tina Turner. Her chart-topping R&B hit “How Can I Ease the Pain?” propelled her 1991 debut album\, So Intense\, to a Grammy Award. \nFeatured in the Academy Award-winning documentary Twenty Feet From Stardom\, she decided the time was ripe to define her own musical identity. Lisa has also forged a particularly deep connection with Philadelphia piano great Orrin Evans and his trio\, featuring Clarence Penn on drums\, and James Genus on bass. \nThis concert is underwritten by Healdsburg Jazz Patrons Howard & Barbara Wollner\, and Gary Jaffe.
