SUMMARY:Marin Theatre presents Pictures from Home
DESCRIPTION:Marin photographer Larry Sultan’s landmark photo memoir comes to life on stage in this west coast premier recently seen on Broadway. In the 1980s\, Sultan spent a decade photographing and interviewing his parents and unearthing the memories beneath his family’s home movies. The result is a deeply intimate and comic portrait of a mother\, a father and their son. Though set in the recent past\, this poignant and theatrically inventive play is both of-the-moment and timeless. Acclaimed theatre director Jonathan Moscone helms this new production. \nThis play is recommended for ages 14 and up. Please be advised this production contains adult language.

SUMMARY:Sweetwater Music Hall presents Purple Haze – Tribute to Jimi Hendrix
DESCRIPTION:Ralph Woodson’s Purple Haze is not your typical tribute band.  \n\nHe has studied his idol to the point of being able to play the guitar behind his back\, and with his teeth. Ralph’s a Hendrix authority\, and it’s obvious when you see him perform.\n\nThe youngest of nine\, he grew up in Richmond\, CA\, and was initially struck by the sound of the “Band of Gypsys” record. Ralph has toured with Hedzoli Sounds (of which Hugh Masekela was a member)\, as well as The Mighty Diamonds\, Lady Bianca\, Faye Carol\, and a Bill Kreutzmann (Grateful Dead)/Sy Klopps (Herbie Herbert) collaboration called the Trichromes. With the Trichromes and later with the Sy Klopps Blues Band\, Ralph played on big stages opening for Tower of Power\, James Brown\, ZZ Top\, and Lynyrd Skynyrd\, among others. He’s appeared at the College of Marin and on KFOG-FM with author/Hendrix expert Steve Roby\, demonstrating the sound and techniques of Jimi Hendrix. \n\nRalph formed the Ralph Woodson Experience in 2001 (which became Purple Haze in 2010)\, focusing on the Hendrix material that he grew up with and always loved. Purple Haze has gained a steady following in the Bay Area and knock people out wherever they go. Ralph’s showmanship and command of the Hendrix material is second to none.

SUMMARY:Mystic Theatre presents The Billie Holiday Project
DESCRIPTION:Singing since the age of eight\, Stella feels wholly blessed to be able to express herself through music and song\, and to carry forth the torch of Jazz Music that she loves so dearly. She grew up in the North San Francisco Bay Area\, steeped in her mother’s eclectic music collection; some of her early musical influences were Louis Armstrong\, Edith Piaf\, Buena Vista Social Club\, Billie Holiday\, Tom Waits\, Bod Dylan and Ella Fitzgerald. Her education was primarily in Acting at Interlochen Arts Academy and Syracuse University\, where she received a degree in classical acting and cultural geography. She spent many years as a Shakespearian actress based out of New York City\, where she began to sing Jazz again with the incredible Marjorie Eliot in Harlem. She moved to her home state of California in 2014\, and began playing music full time\, starting the eclectic gypsy jazz inspired band\, Bandjango Collectif\, a wild around the edges band that mixes French Jazz Manouche\, New Orleans Hot Swing\, and Eclectic Global Folk\, allowing Stella to explore and play in vocal improvisation\, different languages\, and song interpretation. In 2019 she debuted The Billie Holiday Project\, a historically centered musical tribute to the great Lady Day; The show was met with great success and quickly moved into some of the Bay Area’s most reputable listening venues and began touring nationally. The pandemic brought fruitful new musical connections and collaborations with musicians such as Marcus Shelby\, Gunhild Carling\, and Ben Levin in Cincinnati.
