The 24th Sonoma Plein-air Air Art Show and Sale is the culmination of the Sonoma Plein Air Festival\, a celebration of outdoor painting to benefit arts education for the children and youth of Sonoma Valley. \nIt is an outdoor event on the Sonoma Plaza\, with artists’ demonstrations\, live music and free\, fun art activities for all ages. Artwork by around 30 nationally renowned artists selected to participate in the Festival are on display and available for purchase. \nProceeds are not-for-profit\, but directly fund art education grants and scholarships for Sonoma Valley’s K-12 students. SUMMARY:Green Music Center presents Boz Scaggs
DESCRIPTION:Boz Scaggs is an American singer\, songwriter\, and guitarist. An early bandmate of Steve Miller in The Ardells and the Steve Miller Band\, he began his solo career in 1969\, though he lacked a major hit until his 1976 album Silk Degrees peaked at number 2 on the Billboard 200\, and produced the hit singles “Lido Shuffle” and “Lowdown”. Scaggs produced two more platinum-certified albums in Down Two Then Left and Middle Man\, the latter of which produced two top-40 singles “Breakdown Dead Ahead” and “Jojo”. After a hiatus for most of the 1980s\, he returned to recording and touring in 1988\, joining The New York Rock and Soul Revue and opening the nightclub Slim’s\, a popular San Francisco music venue until it closed in 2020. He has continued to record and tour throughout the 1990s\, 2000s\, and 2010s\, with his most recent album being 2018’s Out of the Blues.

SUMMARY:Mystic Theatre presents Vieux Farka Touré
DESCRIPTION:Often referred to as “The Hendrix of the Sahara”\, Vieux Farka Touré was born in Niafunké\, Mali in 1981. He is the son of legendary Malian guitar player Ali Farka Touré\, who died in 2006. Ali Farka Touré came from a historical tribe of soldiers\, and defied his parents in becoming a musician. When Vieux was in his teens\, he declared that he also wanted to be a musician. His father disapproved due to the pressures he had experienced being a musician. Rather\, he wanted Vieux to become a soldier. But with help from family friend the kora maestro Toumani Diabaté\, Vieux eventually convinced his father to give him his blessing to become a musician shortly before Ali passed.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVieux was initially a drummer / calabash player at Mali’s Institut National des Arts but secretly began playing guitar in 2001. Ali Farka Touré was weakened with cancer when Vieux announced that he was going to record an album. Ali recorded a couple of tracks with him\, and these recordings\, which can be heard on Vieux’s debut CD\, were amongst his final ones. It has been said that the senior Touré played rough mixes of these songs when people visited him in his final days\, at peace with\, and proud of\, his son’s talent as a musician. \nAs a passionate champion for the people of Mali and The Sahel\, Vieux founded the charity Amahrec Sahel in 2012. As part of Amahrec Sahel’s mission to support humanitarian reconstruction and culture\, the charity has provided school supplies for children\, supported an orphanage in Bamako and provided musical instruments for young musicians in Mali. Vieux is also the director of The Ali Farka Touré Foundation\, an international organization dedicated to the preservation of Ali’s legacy and the cultural growth of Mali.

Spike has spent years searching for this sound. \nFrom the Texas blues joints he cut his teeth in to the funky halls of New Orleans\, he was always studying the music\, trying to find just the right recipe. It makes perfect sense that he found his bandmates in Sonoma County\, a music scene that has fostered many eclectic artists for decades.

SUMMARY:Uptown Theatre presents A Flock of Seagulls
DESCRIPTION:As well-known for their bizarrely teased haircuts as their hit single “I Ran (So Far Away)\,” A Flock of Seagulls were one of the infamous one-hit wonders of the new wave era. Growing out of the synth-heavy and ruthlessly stylish new romantic movement\, A Flock of Seagulls were a little too robotic and arrived a little too late to be true new romantics\, but their sleek dance-pop was forever indebted to the short-lived movement. The group benefitted considerably from MTV’s heavy rotation of the “I Ran” video in the summer of 1982. \nHairdresser Mike Score (lead vocals\, keyboards) formed A Flock of Seagulls with his brother Ali (drums) and fellow hairdresser Frank Maudsley (bass) in 1980\, adding guitarist Paul Reynolds several months later. The group released its debut EP on Cocteau Records early i n 1981\, and while the record failed to chart\, its lead track\, “Telecommunication\,” became an underground hit in Euro-disco and new wave clubs. The band signed a major-label contract with Jive by the end of the year\, and their eponymous debut album appeared in the spring of 1982. “I Ran (So Far Away)” was released as the first single from the album\, and MTV quickly picked up on its icily attractive video\, which featured long shots of Mike Score and his distinctive\, cascading hair. The single climbed into the American Top Ten\, taking the album along with it. In the U.K.\, “I Ran” didn’t make the Top 40\, but “Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You)” reached number ten later that year; in America\, that single became a Top 40 hit in 1983\, after “Space Age Love Song” peaked at number 30. “Wishing” was taken from the group’s second album\, Listen (1983)\, which was moderately successful. The band released 1984’s The Story of a Young Heart failed to produce any hit singles but Reynolds left after the album and was replaced by Gary Steadnin; the band also added keyboardist Chris Chryssaphis. The new lineup was showcased on 1986’s Dream Come True. Shortly after its release\, the band broke up. Mike Score assembled a new lineup of A Flock of Seagulls in 1989\, releasing the single “Magic” and touring the U.S.A. The band continued to tour worldwide\, although with major changes to its members\, and in 1996 released a new album\, The Light at the End of the World.

In fall of 2025\, she participated in the Global Sumud Flotilla\, a direct action to bring humanitarian aid to Gaza by sailboat. In early October\, after a month at sea\, she was imprisoned in Israel for five days along with hundreds of her comrades. \nSoon after\, Blanton released The Little Flame\, a song of solidarity covered widely on social media during her detention. The Little Flame features background vocals from Irish band Ye Vagabonds and Carsie’s Palestinian/New Zealander prison-mate Rana Hamida\, and appears on her latest album\, The Red Album Vol II. \nAfter two decades spent on the road\, Blanton has amassed a dedicated fan base and a small menagerie of viral hits and regularly sells out mid-size venues across the U.S. and Europe. 2026 will find her touring heavily with her own band and in collaboration with Canadian folk-punk rabblerousers The Burning Hell\, as well as continuing her organizing work with Artists Against Apartheid and the Party for Socialism and Liberation. \nThe Burning Hell is the musical project of songwriter Mathias Kom and multi-instrumentalist Ariel Sharratt. Their narrative-driven songs are packed with literary\, historical\, and pop-cultural subjects\, incorporating a frequent fixation on apocalypse and ruin into work that celebrates participation in a surprising\, wry\, and even occasionally beautiful world. He also had new interest in the simultaneity of the past and present. Miller sought to “do a play without any transitions at all\, dialogue that would simply leap from bone to bone of a skeleton that would not for an instant cease being added to\, an organism as strictly economic as a leaf\, as trim as an ant.”
