SUMMARY:Novato Theater company presents Spelling Bee
DESCRIPTION:An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives\, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words\, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing\, pout-inducing\, life un-affirming “ding” of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves a champion! At least the losers get a juice box. A riotous ride\, complete with audience participation\, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a delightful den of comedic genius.

SUMMARY:Marin Theatre presents Death of a Salesman
DESCRIPTION:Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman is a work of deep and revealing beauty\, that remains one of the most profound achievements in American theater. \nSet in late 1940s Brooklyn and told through a montage of memories\, dreams\, and arguments of the protagonist traveling salesman Willy Loman who is despondent with his life and appears to be slipping into senility. Several tragic\, soul-searching revelations – concerning his wife\, his sons and his business associates – underscore how his quest for the “American Dream” kept him blind to the people who truly loved him. \nArthur Miller had been thinking about a play about a salesman for years. He also had new interest in the simultaneity of the past and present. Miller sought to “do a play without any transitions at all\, dialogue that would simply leap from bone to bone of a skeleton that would not for an instant cease being added to\, an organism as strictly economic as a leaf\, as trim as an ant.”

SUMMARY:6th Street Playhouse presents Misalliance
DESCRIPTION:Misalliance is one of George Bernard Shaw’s most spirited and surprising comedies. Set in the drawing room of a prosperous English family on a seemingly ordinary afternoon\, the tranquility is shattered when an airplane literally crashes into their greenhouse\, introducing a bold\, unconventional aviatrix into the midst of polite society. As suitors circle\, secrets surface\, and romantic expectations unravel\, Shaw turns the traditional courtship comedy on its head with sharp wit and deliciously tangled misunderstandings. \nBeneath its farcical twists and sparkling dialogue\, Misalliance offers lively debate alongside laugh-out-loud moments\, making it as thought-provoking as it is entertaining. First performed in 1910 it has endured as a favorite among Shaw enthusiasts for its feminist themes and energetic social satire. The play reflects the early 20th century’s fascination with aviation\, modern industry\, and shifting social structures\, capturing a world on the brink of transformation.

SUMMARY:Sweetwater Music Hall presents Zepparella
DESCRIPTION:How to honor the legacy of a band deemed sacred? To tread on holy ground is perilous\, and must be done with the intent and spirit of a disciple—Pay attention to the intricacies of the magic\, explore the far ends of the innovation\, strive for ever-growing ability\, and let the purity of the love for the music drive it all. \nDrummer Clementine is the founding member of ZEPPARELLA. From the beginning of her musical career\, her goal has been to be onstage every night. The pursuit of that goal has led Clementine to constantly tour the US and Europe in projects as diverse as Bottom\, AC/DShe\, The House Of More\, The Solid\, Francis Bakin\, Stars Turn Me On and Beaux Cheveux. She tackles the best rock drumming ever written with her own emotionally powerful style\, bringing the Motown influence of the Bonham groove to the forefront. The profound musical connection established with Gretchen Menn (guitar)\, Holly West (bass)\, and Anna Kristina (vocals) creates the bond required to do this great music justice. \nIt was under the tutelage of classical guitarist Phillip DeFremery\, a student of Andrés Segovia\, that guitarist Gretchen Menn began her path on the instrument. Playing with tireless passion and constantly seeking out new challenges\, her projects are often unconventional\, genre-bending expressions combining elements of classical\, rock\, progressive\, jazz\, and metal. On influences\, Gretchen has never tired of her initial inspirations—Eric Johnson\, Steve Morse\, Frank Zappa\, and Jeff Beck. But she has loved Jimmy Page’s guitar playing longer than she has played the guitar. It was through the music of Led Zeppelin that she found a gateway into music that resonated deeply with her\, creating a love for guitar-oriented music\, and\, ultimately\, the guitar.

SUMMARY:Sonoma County Harvest Fair
DESCRIPTION:For 50 years\, the Sonoma County Harvest Fair has highlighted Sonoma County’s incredible agriculture\, wineries\, artisan makers and culinary stars. Since the Fair’s inception in 1975\, it has gained a reputation as one of the premiere regional wine judgings in the country. It draws a considerable amount of attention and interest on both a statewide and national level. \nThe Harvest Fair recruits 18 judges representing trade\, education\, writers\, retailers and others in the wine and hospitality industry to judge the professional wine competition. Over two days\, these professionals judge over 900 wines\, all made from grapes grown in our premiere Sonoma County growing region. Top Harvest Fair awards garner local and national recognition of Sonoma County’s premium wines. The Harvest Fair also highlights Sonoma County’s innovative cuisine through its professional food competitions. \nThe Harvest Fair\, though very much in the national spotlight\, is still able to retain its exclusively local flavor. In addition to our wine and food judgings it holds a Grand Tasting where over 1\,000 people can sip and taste all the Golds and Best of Class wines. \nThe Harvest Fair is a major tourist event\, yet continues to focus its emphasis on the community.

SUMMARY:Mystic Theatre presents Mark Farina with Wolf Pack
DESCRIPTION:A name that rings out across the entire global dance music industry. His non-stop touring\, constant content creation\, partnerships with legendary venues and record labels as well as his total commitment to showcasing the best new and old school producers in his sets have made him a living legend to lovers of house and Mushroom Jazz everywhere. \n“I look at my job as a ‘modern day traveling minstrel’. To bring new music to as many places as I can and expose obscure records that otherwise might go hidden.” \nAt the age of 16\, in his hometown of Chicago\, Illinois\, Mark became obsessed with music and record collecting eventually discovering the ‘80s underage club mecca\, Medusa’s. While record shopping at Import’s Etc. in 1988\, Farina met fellow innovator and future best mate\, Derrick Carter\, who steered him towards groundbreaking House Music Producers and labels of the time. Later that year\, Farina landed an impressive residency at Chicago’s legendary live music venue\, Smart Bar\, a relationship he maintains to this day. In 1989\, Mark\, Derrick\, and Chris Nazuka (aka Symbols and Instruments) signed with Kevin Sanderson’s KMS records and released “Mood” which sold over 35\,000 copies and is credited as the first “Ambient House” track. \nFarina then pushed musical boundaries even further when he experimented with a deeper style of music that wasn’t being played in the main rooms of nightclubs. Combining the likes of De La Soul with disco classics and Martin Luther King samples\, he seamlessly blended West Coast jazzy beats\, acid jazz grooves\, the Chicago House sound of his youth and some ‘90s New York Hip-Hop. The result: Mushroom Jazz. The birth of this new sound cemented Farina’s musical versatility. He recorded limited-edition cassette tapes that would sell out in minutes at Chicago’s Gramophone Records\, the store Mark worked at in the early 90’s. Promoters took notice of his rapidly expanding following and soon his schedule was packed with gigs around Chicago and the rest of the US. \nThe last few years have been an incredible new era of creativity\, outreach\, and recognition for one of the most original and consistent voices in the business. Mark continues to connect with new fans without losing those who have been loyal supporters from day one. Fans\, promoters\, and industry insiders all know that no matter what changes come along Mark Farina always delivers.
